Just wanted to know when I should put "fresh" pellets into her bowl to replace what has not been eaten?

With veggies, I did it every couple of hours, as with fruit, but I hear that with pellets, they can be left for 12 or even 24 hours?

Do they go off?

Thanks.

Pellets can be left for a couple of days in their cage with no bad effects because they are dried out.

Wow really? So basically I should throw out whatever is left after 48 hours?

Equally should I therefore put in 2 days worth when initially filling it up?

Thanks.

Elliott I tend to put enough in for a day and top it up if needed, after two days I empty them in to a bowl and sift through them, I use the left overs for making birdie bread etc and throw the "not so good ones" out for the wild birdies

Mrs. Piker, do you have a recipe for birdie bread made from AZ pellets? I've started Zazu & Chip on them too, but there seems to be lots of powder left over!

Yes... what should we leave in there and what should we throw out?

I wouldn't know what ones are good or bad?

...and as for the powedered bits... what do I do with that?

She does like the AZ fruit chunks and has eaten about half the amount I put out yesterday, but not the full quota... is that ok?

Thanks.

I've not made it with AZ Pellets yet, but I would follow this recipe for them http://www.africangreyparrotcentre.co.uk/african-grey-forum/african-grey-diet/birdie-bread-and-spoons-treats/

If you have the birdie recipe cook book follow that recipe

Or you can follow this recipe this one as I've made this one and it came out brill http://www.africangreyparrotcentre.co.uk/african-grey-forum/african-grey-diet/birdie-bread-and-spoons-treats/

Hope that helps

I keep the full ones, I use the broken ones and powder for making birdie bread and left over treats

And it's OK that she's not eaten all the fruit chunks, she's eaten what she wanted
Mine don't always emoty their bowls either

I've just posted some links to make birdie meals with the left overs, so why not click on them and have a go

Let me know how you get on

Hey there Julie,

Thanks for the message.

Ok, so I'll "re-use" the whole or mostly whole ones when I put some fresh ones in tomorrow...

As for the powder and tiny bits, I will put them into a freezer bag and work out a suitable recipe for her!

Thanks x

Hi...

Dolly has really taken well to her new AZ fruit chunks, however when I came down this morning, they were virtually powder!

I take it that she has been eating them all through the night, which I am pleased to see...

But what to do with the powder if I don't want to make anything from them?

Can I use them in water and make a flavoured drink for her?

Any other suggestions, or if I am to make anything out of them... anything really simple?

Can they actually eat the powder in that form if I just left it there?

Thanks.

The bread is dead easy to make and will take you about 10 mins to prep if your okay in the kitchen. Takes longer to bake in oven  and the birds love it.

It sounds a silly question, but is there teflon in a standard oven (Neff)?

don't know the answer to that one Elliot..have you not got the booklet that came with it??

You could always google the make and model and see what information comes up, or get in touch with the manufacturer......  but even then, if it did have, other than making sure windows are open, doors are shut and extractor is on, thats all you can do.. or buy a new oven :-(
