Animal Zone Plumage Enhancer Question
« on: January 30, 2012, 02:17:14 PM »

Animalzone Plumage Enhancer...

I am tempted to get some for Dolly, but does she "need" it or are the fruit chunks fine?

We have just used up the majority of the first bag of fruit chunks and she loves them, so we will get some more, however I wanted to ask about the size of the plumage enhancer pellets...

Are the large ones the same size and dimension as the fruit chunks or are the different, and if so, how?

The fruit chunks are great as she can hold them, but there seems to be a lot of waste...

What ultimately is the best between fruit chunks and fruit bits, and between plumage enhancer small or large?

Thank you in advance peeps!

Hi Elliot

I initially got the fruit Sticks and the Plumage Enhancer - Large

However, there was a lot of waste with them.  The last lot I got was the Small Plumage enhancer and the Fruit chunks

I personally find that with the smaller ones, there is far less waste..and both my greys love them, and I will be sticking with the small

You don't NEED the plumage enhancer as well as the fruit chunks - but I just get both, so that they have a little variety...and I mix them both together in the same bowl each day.  It is no more expensive to get both... as one bag of enhancer and one bag of fruit chunks - is like having two bags of enhancer ..if you know what i mean - weight for weight.  The fruit is a little bit more expensive , thats all

Hope this helps

Thanks Tezza.

So you would say that the plumage enhancer large is too big? Is it bigger per piece than the fruit chunks?

Its not Too big... and some birds prefer bigger pieces of food - e.g Mrs Piker like the large, as some of her greys have foot problems and find the larger easier to handle.

For me, it was purely from a waste/expense point of view - and I find a lot less waste with the small.  Not sure now to be honest about the comparison of size between plumage enhancer and fruit chunks

Animal Zone chunks or bits?
« Reply #4 on: January 30, 2012, 02:35:00 PM »

Our Dolly is currently eating and enjoying Animal Zone Fruit Chunks.

We are about to put an order in for some more, but I wanted to know if the bits are better than the chunks?

What is the size difference?

There is a lot of waste with the chunks and it all turns to powder by the end of the day... is this the same with the bits?

Thanks.

Approximately how large would you say the plumage enhancer large pieces are?

Are the sticks like the fruit chunks or are they round in a ball?

Thanks again Tezza

I really have no idea how large the large Plumage Enhancer pieces are Elliot - as I no longer have them.

The fruitsticks/chunks are very similar in shape - not like a ball or anything, just short little sticks

The Large is a little bit fatter than the small.  Length of course varies because bits are broken off in the bag, but I suppose about an inch would be the longest bits.  We have both in stock in the shop.  Personally, I find the small is better for my two, they pick it up and eat it, without so much waste, like Tezza said.  Fruit chunks are ok and yes it's still a complete diet, but really I wouldn't like to eat the same thing all the time.  I have all of the pellets and I give them a few of each in their bowls so that they have a variety.  My two love the cereal as well,I just started giving that to them in the mornings and so far so good lol.

As she already likes the fruit chunks, I think I will stick with them and at the end of the day, I can always snap them in half for her to make them smaller...

As for the plumage enhancer, I am still stuck...

So... the large are about an inch long (longest), which is similar to the longest fruit chunk.

If they are similar, could I just snap them in the same way I do with the chunks?

I want to get both for variety.

Just wanting to make sure I don't bulk buy large and regret it, or small and regret it too!

As for the fruit bits... are they a lot less waste than the chunks?

Sorry for all the questions...!

Personally I think whatever you buy she will eat and enjoy.  Whether it's small or large, she will pick them up in her foot and eat them.  My two don't make as much mess or waste with the small ones.  It's up to you really, whether you mind sweeping the floor a hundred times a day or not.     Whatever ones you buy will be fine for Dolly.
