Any Tips Please?
« on: December 11, 2011, 11:01:22 AM »

Hello, as some of you know, my Oscar is a funny little fella who refuses to eat fruit or veg! Grrr
He's on harrisons high potency which he loves, but to be honest I'd get bored eating the same thing each day, sooo I was wondering if you have any tips on how I can introduce a more varied diet, I'm quiet good in the kitchen but I'm lacking ideas on what to cook, :( so If you got any tasty recipes I'd be really grateful x

Look for the parrot cookbook on here. It's all recipes for parrots made by members on here.

Tia is quite a fussy eater too.  she will eat some fish and chicken.  I .also make some Harrisons bread for her i add palm oil instead of veg oil which is good for her

I also let her "pinch" my piece of raw carrot, cabbage etc which she finds amusing

Lexi came to me totally refusing to try anything new, she would literally shovel it with her beak out the bowl onto the floor - and sometimes it travelled across the room!

Now she is a completely different bird and to be honest all I have done is offer her whatever I can, when I sit down to breakfast, lunch or dinner at the dining table I have a tiny plate with her *portions* on. It's whatever I have (minus salt, dairy or whatever she ought not to have) so for example last night she had small chunks of roast carrot, roast potato and asparagus. This morning she had toast and when I sit to my lunch she will have slice of apple. Once I start to eat my dinner she is very nosey to see what I have and when I am half way through I offer her bits from her little plate and she always scoffs loads LOL. So I would say whatever you want to feed him, sit and eat in front of him (maybe face your chair side on so he is more curious) then when you are nearly done offer him a wee bit and ignore him, he might chuck it or he might just nibble
