Cuttlefish
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:16:39 PM »

Hi,

I am new to the site and have a random question involving cuttlefish of all things!...
A friend has given me some cuttlefish which they got from the beach whilst on holiday, I am wondering wether this will be safe to give my parrot?
I know you get cuttlefish in the pet shops but cautious on this one as salt for parrots is a no no & well...the beach = sea salt lol.
Would I be able to rinse it/do something with it to make it safe or is it destined for the bin!?

Thanks.

Hi
Don't think I would use one from the beach, Parrots don't really need cuttlefish depending on the diet, and even if extra calcium etc is required there are better ways to give it

Bin it.......better to be safe than sorry, they could have anything on them with coming from the beach.. Like others have said, there are better ways to give calcium to your bird.I wouldn't risk it if I were you.  :bye:
