Thats what im worried about...forgeting it all.....its like being back at school and learning a new subject....and i NEVER was any good at school. Trouble is im a perfectionist and i like to do all i do to the very best of my ability, get so annoyed with myself when i dont uderstand something or do something wrong!!!
Still i t wil be a god while before i can get my first AG so i have plenty of time to absorb it all, and in the mean time enjoy drawling over all the pics of everyone elses babys lol :-)

Hi, I'm new to this forum but hope to have an african grey soon would prefer to rehome an older bird as I've heard there are lots out there needing good homes.
I already have a cage, perch and tidymix food.
I know you can offer them sprouts - would it be ok to offer the sprout on the stork for a bird to chew on.  I grow my own and have a few spare storks around would appreciate your advice.

Also with halloween fast approaching i intend to roast the seed of a pumpkin - how long will they store for.

Thanks

Auburn It would be helpful to you if you read the sticky's, the grey sections under Diet, as its such a huge subject. from pellet to mash to fresh food etc .

Thanks for the advice - it might take me a while-
I have access to loads of fruit and veg and have bought some spouting seeds as well
I know they like pumpkin seeds but didnt know how long they keep for and
was intrigued about the stork of the sprouts have already pulled a couple and wanted to know if it was worth keeping them.
It could well be a while before we have our feathered friend and I don't want to miss the opportunity of storing what I have already.

With sprouted seed you must be careful as they can go mouldy very quick, which is harmful, please read the different sections to get a good idea of what is adviseable. Good luck

This is fantastic - thank you for posting it!

With his usual owner Flint just gets a seed mix so I'm trying to mix it up a bit. I'm giving him a mix which has less seed in it, but haven't tried him on pellets yet. My feeling is that it will take time to wean him off the seed diet because he really loves them.

But I'm giving him plenty of fresh fruit and veg and he seems to be enjoying carrot and orange in particular. He nibbled a bit a some Pak Choi last night too.
He doesn't like pecan nuts and bread type things but seems to be ok with pasta.

Do they really eat chilli peppers? Like the hot, spicy ones??? Wow!

they love hot spicy ones!  parrots don't have those taste buds which perceive the heat from the peppers, the compound called capsaicin, so they enjoy the taste without the pain

You can never tell in advance how a parrot would react to pellets, some takes ages to convert and some take to them straightaway. You don't need to remove all the seed completely at once, to start with he can both and then already you can phase out the seed as the staple of the diet

Shame poor parrots - I'm addicted to the burning sensation from peppers - the hotter the better and wasabi the like. In my personal opinion, they are really missing out

No doubt being a bit dim here but I am confused as to the feeding habits. H e has a bowl of water and his bowl of food that was bought from the shop. He has sort of eaten bits and some fruit and veggie but not much. I saw somebody on here talk about feeding twice a day. What is the best way to sort myself out? Do I leave him with his bowl of mixed food and do I feed him something else twice a day? :pecking: :ty
