Hi there and welcome to the forum.  I think it's a case of giving your bird the best that you can from your most convenient place.  It would probably cost a lot of money to get Harrisons shipped to India so maybe stick with whatever it is you are feeding him now.

the only think I can suggest is to keep giving him whatever you can give him.  He won't starve himself and when he is hungry he will eat.

I don't know, I'm not familiar with this bird food, but if you can't get any other real parrot food then I suppose it will have to do.  How do other people manage?  What do they feed their African Greys?

Hi there and welcome to the forum, we have had people on before saying its quite hard to get things in india, but it sounds like you are doing great for your baby ,we can get the food you are using here in the UK.  Its good that you are giving pellets as well. If you keep trying your bird on veg and fruit , chop it up really small and mix it all together that way it will be eating a little bit of everything. Also if mittu sees you pretending to eat it ,  he will be more likley to want some. you can also make birdie bread for mittu, just put in whatever you have in the house likes of vegetables and a little bit fruit. You will find a recipe for birdie bread in the diet section. You just have to be persistant and keep giving it . Pablo threw the first few pieces of birdie bread away ,but now he loves it. You can also freeze this and just give a piece a day. I wouldnt worry about the seeds and pelets as you are doing fine. xx

Hello Pat

First of all in india there r not too many exotic birds. recently a birdie store was opened nearby to my place. i have gone there to see what they feed. they feed only sunflower seeeds (black one) and guava fruit. they do not give all these kind of parrot food. but my parrot will not tough the fruits . after joining this forum i have seen that many of u do not recommend sunflower seeds  so i stopped them.now a days my mittu is loosing small new feathers . am very much worried.

I would say that you just have to get the best food that you can afford and that is available in your area.

Make sure you give lots of vegetables, both cooked and uncooked - and also you could sprout some seeds, and feed those too

If you are worried at all about the health of your grey, then you should take him to an avian vet if possible, or best vetinary surgery you know to get him checked over and settle your worries

Hi There,  dont worry about loosing feathers he will just be losing them so that his new ones can come in. When i see the amount of little feathers my 2 lose its a wonder they are not bald. They lose loads and loads of the white fluffy ones and quite a few of the little grey ones. Pablo has lost 2 big black ones this week but he is moulting so its not a problem.

The food she gets for mittu is the same as the one Glynn feeds Marley and poppy.

My parents are from India, and there not many commercially available food for parrots, and many of the parrots I saw (INR and Alexandrian Parakeets) are fed on a mixture of different seeds and fruits. Have you considered making a healthy seed mix? As I assume it must be fairly expensive exporting and importing pellets from other countries.

Also ALL the parrots I saw were named mitto/mittu!

you could make your own version of a healthy mix that consists of fresh fruit+veg(or dried),crushed nuts, herbs anything healthy thats easy for you to get hold of.
