Do You Feed Organic?
« on: May 07, 2011, 11:29:25 AM »

I was just wondering how many people buy and feed organic foods to their parrots and how many don't really worry about those things, so thought i will run a poll

I try to be as organic as possible, so i would say Im between 60-90% one.

I do my best to buy organic but we get the majority of our groceries online and sometimes it's not available and/or gets swapped on delivery.

I buy organic when ever I can, this includes Veggies as got a local supply. And financial constraints. But every time if I can.

For me it comes down to finances rather than availability but when I can afford it, I do.

Oh yes, I always buy organic milk and spread (Yeo Valley) as I don't want to risk buying milk from factory farmed herds from abroad.

ah yes, I try to buy all veg and fruit organic but it does vary depending on the availability, but the things I always always buy organic are lettuce, if they are for Digby too then all the berries, like strawberries and blueberries, and peppers (both us and Digby), but also apples and pears and tomatoes and mushrooms, because these are supposed to be the worst for pesticides. Root vegetables are best organic because being the roots they absorb a lot of nasties from the ground, so carrots and potatoes are usually also organic here.
I am not too worried about bananas and citrus fruit not being organic as they have thick inedible skins, plus pomegranates which are not available organic at all.
I never ever buy grapes from Chile, and if organic are not available then just check where they are from and got those not from Chile.
I try to buy meat and dairy organic, but i can only afford that because I don't eat meat at all and Nicholas eats very little of it.

Oh and grains and pulses for sprouting are organic because I don't want them to brew in a mix of unknown chemicals while they are soaking and sprouting.

I read about it once in an article on Environmental Working Group website, something about them being super contaminated with all sorts of chemical pesticides and fertilizers  I am not racist or prejudiced against Chile, just their grapes
