Good article Ann-Marie
When trying to convert mine I never even contemplated withholding food (dangerous advice) but would give them a good feed in the morning then remove everything and give pellets in the early afternoon......if they didn't eat any I would give them seeds, sprouts etc at tea time.
Have given up on converting Traff now....he gets a supplement and does eat plenty of veg, sprouts etc

I agree with you bob , Pablo is a happy bird and who am I to say he WILL eat pellets. I don't like liver or kidneys and not even a million pounds could make me eat and swallow it ,i would be sick. Will try again for a couple of days with no seeds but make sure there  is everything else there for pabs. If he squeaks well I will let him squeak but only for 2 days and no more . I am not going to make him miserable. but  don't tell hubby as always makes me feel bad . He will get veg and birdie bread 3 or 4 times a day so he won't be hungry ,but he squeaks for his seeds so I will try really hard not to give in . ut don't hold your breathe as Pablo means the world to me and I don't like to see him unhappy.

Karen maybe before offering pellets you should stop the seed completely, give him beans, wholegrain pasta/rice, lentils and lots of veg.

Maybe the problem is the seed addiction rather than the pellets. If he is eating the veg etc he isn't starving but he knows if he keeps squaking he'll get seed!

You might have to do a couple of painful days of squaking and you being tough to get him off the seed, but once he is he might take more readily to the pellets.

Just a suggestion though, you know him better than me

Lesley he get everything you have mentioned ,but also get his seeds in another bowl. If he doesn't get his seeds he squeaks till I give in . He his right beside us outside in the sun !but this has been his routine for 8 years. I know he can't be hungry or he would go back and eat more veg or birdie bread. It's just routine that is happening here and its my own fault , I read up on greys for a year before I got Pablo as I didn't like birds and was scared of them flying over my head. But hubby really wanted one for years. So I gave in and said ,I'm not feeding it ,I'm not cleaning it's cage I'm not doing a thing it's your bird. But after 2 days it was oh so different. I don't like bill cleaning pablo's cage,  he doesn't know how to make birdie bread or sprouts  and everything else we do.

Only gonna try when hubby is way next week ,then Pablo wins as it's not fair me making him unhappy . Watch this space after 8 years I will get him converted .bit if not ,he will get pellets in his mega sunflower mix here as that is all I can get here.

Some one send me ear plugs please. I'm terrible where pabs is concerned.but hubby is anything for a quiet life. So when he is away for the week,I'm going to try really hard and try not to give into him.but he looks at me as if to say what's up mum I've no seeds. I know it's gonna be hard but as I've said 2 days and that's my lot. Some birds just won't convert and I'm not going to make him unhappy.I've tried for years but always gave in after a day . He get loads of good stuff and going to order a vitamin supplement and try again with palm oil.  But if it's a non no then I'm afraid that's what it's going to be  . The trouble is ,that he is spoilt ..I don't know why I'm getting so worried about him as he eats good and is ok,but you just want to do what is best or them ..    Wish me luck guys . Ha a ha ha

Well dont upset yourself over it Karen.

Like you say he is a healthy bird.
I think its worth a proper try (more than a day ), nothing bad will happen if he doesn't get his seed for a few days anyway.

But dont make yourself unhappy worrying about it, its great he eats lots of veg and birdie bread

wouldn't it be good if someone did a parrot boot camp and you could send them away for a week and they came back eating pellets, toilet trained, quiet and not biting
