A lot of us use a complete pelleted diet , that way your bird cant pick out the seeds he likes  :nono:
most wil go for the sunflower seeds alone and this is not a balanced diet and could also leed to fatty liver  :panic:
at least with a pellet each and every piece is exactly the same and has everything your grey needs too
so no need for supplements  :nono:
i do use tidymix seed as treats though and also in forraging toys

yes you can still give fruit and veg so they get variety but all the stuff they need is in the complete food pellets.  If you go for the harrisons I tend to search on the internet - Chemist Direct is normally quite cheap.  If you go for the Animal Zone then I'm not sure where the others get it from but they will tell you.

I would have a good read up on pellets on here and then you can make an informed decision as to which ones to go for x

When I got Sid, five years ago, his diet consisted of sunflower seeds, peanuts and  five grapes a day and whatever he could pinch from your plate. I changed the sunflower seeds to a mixed seed diet and when I joined this forum and read about Harrisons, I introduced him to these and he has not looked back. He is now fully feathered and his temperament is calm and he is affectionate with all the family. I have tried him on Animalzone, but he refuses to eat this. He also has fruit in moderation and veg every day, with toast in the morning.

theres different ways to convert, some put in a small spoon of seed in the morning for 1 hr, remove it and replace with pellet al day until a hr befor bed and replace the seed so as not to go hungry too much
some say go cold turkey, remove everything and put the pellet in the bowl
you could also try putting a little juice on the pellet so as they take to it easier especially if its harrisons as that one is natural where the animal zone do a fruity one

Some add orange juice to the pellets to make them sweeter. What I did was to give Sid toast in the morning and leave the Harrisons in his bowl during the day and then gave him veg and seed at night, just in case he hadn't eaten many of the pellets. After about three days he was eating the pellets and being really greedy with them and I only give him a peanut or seed now  as a treat, which is hardly ever.

Moveing to pellets from seed can take some birds some time so don't buy a lot of pellets at first and have seeds available make sure your bird is eating pellets before stopping seeds, most use orange juice on the pellets to get there birds eating pellets, sunflowerand peanuts are fattening so if you continue with seed try to get a mix that excludes them.

I buy my pellets Harrisons Adult Lifetime Coarse from http://www.vetuk.co.uk/bird-supplies-harrison-s-bird-food-c-529_469

I tried with a bit orangejuice on top of pellets 1st time, he didnt like it (but he dont like oranges as well lol ) so i used a bit grapejuice  and he started eating.
Next morning he only got a tiny bit of his seed mix in with pellets, evening only pellets and he was munching away. So it was 2 days for me - but I consider myself lucky there.
Good Luck Dobby
