HARRISONS or ZuPREEN?
« on: January 29, 2017, 05:00:15 PM »

Hi everyone,

I've had my African Grey for a little over 2 weeks now, he's 7 and has been feather plucking (tail, wings and chest  :cry2:)  We believe he has only ever been on a nut seed diet as he will not take ANY fruit or veg. We tried converting to Harrisons High Potency pellets and that took a few days and he loves them now. However, we've heard that ZuPreem is better? So I'm interested to hear what you guys feed your bird and which is the better diet for a grey who has only ever known nuts and seeds.

Thanks for any info

If he's eating the Harrison's that's brilliant, so don't worry about changing him. It's just a case of finding what they'll eat. Harrison's is generally thought to be the best. Mine is on zupreem fruity just because she loves them. Honestly compared to the seed diet he was having the Harrison's is 100 times better. :) fruit & veg is just a case of keep trying

Can't comment on the Zupreem as we've never used it .
We feed Harrison's Adult Lifetime course6fsys a week and one day we feed AS30
The Harrison's was on the advice of our vet because our hen gets very hormonal.
She told us many years ago to start her first on Harrison's Power treats which we did.
If he won't take fruit or vegetables ,as his last owners fed him on table scraps !!!He deffo needs sorting out with the f&v even if you take all feed out the cage for a few hrs so that all he's got is f&v to eat.

I use both Harrison's and zupreme
I like yo feed different pellets incase I can't get hold of a certain brand
There's no pellets mine won't eat :)

Thanks for your replies, its good to know I've chosen a good diet for him. I wasn't sure which would be better as they all claim to be the best and I only want the best for my feathered friend

My grey has been on Harrison's for years now. We did offer her zupreem and animal zone but she never took to them. That's fantastic that you got your grey converted to pellets so quickly!

Have you tried your grey with pomegranate? Most greys will enjoy that. Another thing you could try is sprinkling the dust from the Harrison's over the fruit or vegetables.
