How much is too much?
« on: January 13, 2012, 07:10:02 PM »

Howdy doody fellow african grey friends!

I wanted to ask "how much is too much food for an african grey"?

Should I/we limit what they eat or leave a good amount of food out/on rotation?

Also, any things we should encourage in large amounts and equally anything we should give, say, little and often?

I am sure we all know the basic things that are a "no no", but are there any things that we should also try to stay clear of?

Let's discuss...

My vie wis that there should always be a supply of food in their cages.

I always make sure that they have pellets in their bowls throughout the day and for the night too.
Vegetables, I give daily, alternating between cooked and raw.
Fruit is given in moderation, maybe a couple of times a week, and small amounts only.   also give them Almonds/walnuts a couple of times a week.

Obviousley they need a constant supply of fresh water too

Is it important to give raw and cooked veg, or is raw/fresh ok as it is?

no, not important - I just alternate between the two for a change really for them.  I guess I look at things when I think about my greys eating the same thing every day of the year, how boring it would be for me!  So, try and give them a variety too, with things  - just my personal preference

As long as they are getting their veggies, its fine - I don't cook the hell out of the veg, as it would destroy the nutrients - I steam it a little for them
