I think they are OK as long as they are cooked, like butter beans

I've read different opinions on this so I don't give it just in case

I've heard different opinions on that one. Some people feed asparagus with no problems. The only health related effect of asparagus I know is that it is diuretic, but so are dandelions and they are good for parrots. So I think a small amount is ok.

Scrap my previous message. I've been reading more about asparagus today and apparently all parts of the fully grown asparagus plant are toxic. The little shoots are not as we can safely eat them, but let's just stick to the theory that asparagus isn't good (but a small amount won't harm if already given or if a bird nicked a bit for example, so we won't panic in this situation  )

ah well done for spotting that. I shouldn't have put that "for cooking" in brackets there and should specify that those with asterisks are not suitable for sprouting, will go and correct it  :ty

I've been going through the list, but didnt see runner beans on there. I'm growing these in my 'parrot plot' along with my dandelions and hoped that they would be suitable for African greys.

It would be great if they can have them. My plants are going to be full of them soon!!

I believe runner beans are fine, but should be boiled before feeding

Jennifer, I am actually wondering about that myself, as I am also growing them and they grew so well last year I am hoping for a good crop this year too. I just think runner beans are a bit tough, but I am sure they would be fine steamed or boiled as they are not a lot different to french beans.

Thats lovely to hear thank you. I'm praying for a bumper crop to share with my future birdy.

Thank you.

Actually, can they eat mashed potatoes? Providing of course that they havent been mashed with milk or butter, but mashed with water, is that ok?

And what about boiled eggs? I'm sure I read somewhere that they can also eat those?
