Now We Are Cooking!
« on: October 29, 2011, 12:27:46 PM »

Am loving my cook book

Cooked up a batch of beans, peas and lentils (pretty much my sprouting mix but cooked instead of sprouted) and got pumpkin, sweet potato and butternut squash on the go. One lot is on the hob to end up as mash balls and the other is chunked and in the oven smothered with the herbs/spices from the curry recipe (I know not exactly the recipe idea but will turn out similar, will take the veg out slightly under done and dice then add to pot with the rest of the stuff and take it from there). I only really wanted half of the pumpkin and squash for the mash recipe so thought since I have a heap of curry making stuff in the cupboard would go with that.  :yahoo:

I am more of a similar cook than recipe follower, I get inspiration for recipes and then kinda tweak them - sometimes it works sometimes not so much

Lexi is gonna be fat as a little piggy parrot  :pecking:  :haha:  Thank goodness for freezers!

I'm glad you're loving the recipe book and that it's giving you ideas to tweak the recipes.
That's how I do the recipes, I look at the foods that are birdie safe and then tweak ideas to come up with the recipes

Please post pics of the foods when cooked and let us know what Lexi thinks of them as I'm sure we'll all want to know and also some of us will try your tweaks too, I know I will  :yahoo:

Oh dear, I hope they work.  :cry2:
Fingers crossed.
Thanks in advance Julie.

I leave mine in for about 2.5 hours on a low setting, then when they are done I leave them on the side to cool, they harden up when cooling, also you need to remember to slice your banana very thinly
I actually use a Mandolin slicer for making my crisps, which I purchased from Asda.

Had to take a break from the kitchen as we have folks over for dinner tonight and the cooker/pots/space is needed

So at the moment everything is wrapped and in the fridge, will take me about half an hour to finish it all off later but got a roast dinner to make in the meantime

Despite my best efforts Lexi totally refuses to eat anything vaguely spiced  but she does love her plain ol mash

Looks deeeelish!

Our bread looked awesome - inside it had dried cranberries, apple, raisins, chopped almonds and coconut. Must have not kneaded it well though bcuz that darned thing was more like a WMD  :haha: Was too afraid to give Lexi any more than a nibble of the crust though for fear she wouldn't be able to digest it  Planning another try, I don't give up that easily  Check out the pic though, you'd never know it was nothing more than a good looking brick

Bought a couple more things today for cooking tomorrow
