The biggest thrill is when you give them a head scratchand they feel so soft. Its also great to see their feathers look so shiny, you do notice it more with the ammies because of the green x

Bobby
Before

After

From Lisa "It's been 10 months since we were given Bobby, and look at the difference!  He's got all his tail feathers back and you can see how smooth all of his feathers are now...His personality has completely changed too, he is a very happy AG, always whistling and chewing his bark and toys.  We still haven't mustered up enough courage to touch him yet though as we've all been bitten a few times for no reason at all - and it hurt!  I think in time we will be able to but for now, it seems to suit Bobby too.
His diet is now strictly pellets, with the odd nut and sunflower seed, and he likes some fruit and a bit of cheese now and then, but he will not eat vegetables at all!
We're so happy to have been given him, he IS a lot of work to keep clean but he is soooo worth it!"

Well done Irina, this is a great topic and the photos are the proof of what a good diet will do for our birdie's - I am amazed at the difference in the birds - wonderful!
I'm so glad that I found this site and received such fast and helpful advice -

Put a little bit of orange or apple juice on them, pretend to eat them yourself.  It can take a long time to get them used to pellets, don't give up though, you can see the results of the birds above.

I also add crushed ones into Flint's cooked veg and chop.

I think its a good idea as well to leave just the pellets in the cage for a few hours during the day.
eg give him his breakfast then leave just pellets in the cage until afternoon then give him his next meal etc

Don't have him going hungry but limit his choices at certain times.

:ty i've just seen the thread on how to change them over.. Will persevere and hopefully he will get there. It's taken me a long time to get him to try fruit and veg and he's only just started taking anything other than peanuts and sunflower seeds! He was a junk food addict before i had him I think!  :nono:

I took on a seed fed birds over 10 yrs old, and all 3 eat pellets, pulses, parrot mash, it can be done, stick with it. One took  many weeks another  2 weeks and the other ate them straight away.

Ive just looked back at some photos and can deffo see a difference in Sammis feathers from being on a pellet diet!
He eats Hagen pellets and he adores them now! He gets 1 or 2 seeds a day hidden in his pellet bowl, but the are actually usually left alone in favour of the pellets now!!!

here he is when he arrived with us

and now, roughly a year later

The pictures are fantastic and what a difference in the parrots, we've always given Frodo pellets, so I guess we won't see a difference, but Bilbo was on seeds (not many thankfully) and fresh veg/fruit before he came to us, but on day 1 we gave Bilbo pellets and he loved them and still does, I think Bilbo's feathers looked just as good as Frodo's when he came to us was because he was hardly on seeds, it was more veg and fruits.
