How long did you try him for Mary?  When I converted mine, I took out everything else and just put Plumage enhancer in a dish, that's all they had for three days.  The first day they didn't eat it, second day they tried it, third day they devoured it and have been eating it ever since.  Then I added the museli as well.  You have to be cruel to be kind sometimes.

Hi welcome to the forums, i feed my pet parrot a selection of seed and Harrison's pellets more of the latter and omit any sunflower seeds and peanuts but add fruit and veg to the mix and a grape or pomegranate for the treats.
Some years ago pellets were believe unfit for breeding birds due to the lack of crop milk, i personally could not say if that was an old wife's tale or not, when i use to breed some 20 odd years ago i fed all my birds on a seed mix and a good selection of willow branches in the aviary which the birds destroyed in no time, i use to hang meadow grasses in clumps from the aviary roof which i collected every weekend sprayed with water and my birds loved that too.

To summarize i would say for a pet bird not intended for breeding i would feed pellets, or do as i do mix with some seed each bird owner will have their own preferences so this thread may throw up different opinions.

The person on yahoo replied to me ''I am a breeder for alomst 30 years now, you're JUST about to get a Grey. I guess you're the one who's giving wrong advise. "80% Pellets....20% Seed"....Great, you're killing your Grey in just 10 years where there lifespan can actually go up to 70 years. I have a 85 years old Grey!''
 :grrr

I may have given the wrong advise about 80% pellets and 20 % Seed ,  but I read that percentage some where, apologise if I'm wrong!

No you are right, that's about it.  I wouldn't even bother to reply to that forum any more to be honest, he isn't going to listen to you, he's stuck in a rut and that's it.  He obviously doesn't want to move on with science or technology lol.

Seriously not worth bothering with, he's set in his ways and no way on this earth is he going to listen to a 15 year old boy no matter if you are right or not.

There is such a vast amount of knowledge on this site from eggs to old birds, literally.  We have people that breed and Dave & Irene have a pair of Greys one of which is 32 years old (I think that's right) so there is an awful lot of experience on here.  Of course you are learning, we are all still learning and what better way then to learn from each other, learn from others mistakes and share the good and bad bits so that others know it's not just them that is going through a rough patch with their birds.

I also had a question I wanted to ask, Is talking hereditary or environmental? Why don't some parrots talk?
( I don't really mind if my parrot ends up talking or not )

I was once told that all birds can talk if you give them the time, patience and encouragement.  Even our Penny who just whistles and beeps has been known to say a really clear Helloooo after making a noise like a telephone, so we know she can talk, she just chooses not to.  There was a programme on the telly once about parrots that had escaped and they were talking and they reckoned that if they bred, then they would teach their young to talk.  So it could end up being hereditary but I would go for environmental really, the way that they are brought up in the home environment with lots of people talking to them as they pass by or them out interacting with the owners.  I'd like to think that is the best way.

   @ the dog

All three of mine talk, when we got Bilbo he did not have many words, but he soon picked them up and now I would say he picks things up quicker than the other two.

I also think because of their intellect, they can learn to talk if they are talked to all the time, but saying that, some just like to make sounds and there is nothing wrong with that
