Soft Food Choices
« on: December 11, 2011, 08:45:02 AM »

Hi all,

My Koko is a year old now, he prefers soft food like scrambled eggs ,mashed sweet potato and stuff in that consistency he doesn't seem to like hard foods like seeds ,nuts or even fruit and vegetables ,although he eats his pellets and he likes it better when i soften it for him by soaking,so i need your help in suggesting what other foods and meals with the same consistency as scrambled eggs and mashed sweet potatoes that i can offer him so that he gets variety ,and thanx in advance

Have you tried porridge, and if you make mash you can get it really fine in the food processor . Also birdie bread ,mine like it soft so I make it in paper cake cases as I found it was softer in the middle in them, rather than making a big one and cutting it up.

Hi
If you look in the diet section there will be lots of things for you to try out where people have posted up recipes, also Pat is selling "mrs Pikers recipe book" that is full of alsorts of ideas to cook and make for your bird and the proceeds from it are going to the rescue fund. The recipes are great - even I can do them

Yes you can do the mash warm, ziggy likes warm food as well.  Porridge,   Just add the oats to some water and cook in pan ,  I do mine in the microwave as it's less mess.  Don't cook oats with milk     Only water ,I add a bit honey to it to give it some taste.

Roasted veggies are proper squishy and Lexi goes nuts for them! I would chop a marrow, some sweet potatoe parsnips carrot - whatever I have got- into chunks and pop in oven with whole tomatoes, sprinkle a bit of veg oil over and shake the baking tray to coat them all. After half hour to an hour depending on veg and size they will be cooked through. Now then I serve em by just giving and letting her take off the skin and eat the mush inside or I can cut them in half and scoop out the inside and give her that. I also freeze the roasted veggies in sandwich bags (one or two bits per bag) so I can defrost em a portion at a time and just zap in microwave for 5 or 10 seconds once defrosted to warm through (but be careful to check it only warm not bhot in the middle).

Hope that helps, and Lexi's fave is roast marrow and roast tomato - the mushiest when cooked LOL

well it's more peas that i've heated and mushed rather than the tinned ones. I think the tinned ones have salt in them so just check before you feed them
