Sorry For The Silly Question
« on: November 09, 2011, 10:41:16 PM »

Hi everyone, im getting slightly confused over the different pellet option, i had alook on the harrisons site and i just dont know which to order ? Am i right in the high Potency diet, is for a starter pellet, birds that need extra nutional support? I am thinking that Billys been on a seeder diet with the suppliments and doesnt seem to like alot of fruit and veg or could this be thats hes still settling in with me as i know its very early. Or do i need the lifetime course food? Im so sorry if i sound really silly. I just seem to read more and more, think ive got it sorted in my head and then im muddled. I have the bird brain lol.
I got a sample through the post of the harrisons they sent me the high potency , which i placed a couple in his dish, he picked them up had alittle taste and threw them on the floor, but ive read that it takes time and patience to switch over.
Just really want to start the process of getting him on the best diet possible.
Im going to search on the threads for the recipes of the homemade cakes and go out shopping tomorrow, see what i can come up with. So sorry again for the sillyness, i think also im alittle scared of ordering the wrong food.  liz x

a lot of us lately have been givin the animal zone pellets
they even do one for pluckers
loads cheaper and no one seems to be havin much trouble in converting their birds

hi thankyou, would it be a really silly idea to order a bag of the harrisons and a bag of the animal zone pellets to see if he prefers one over the other, or would that just complicate matters? thankyou liz x

I'd probably just stick to the one or you might end up like me with cupboards full of every different make   Then if that one doesn't work out try one of the others next x

hiya, thankyou for your very kind help, could i be cheeky again and ask if someone could put alink on for the animalzone pellets as ive googled it and cant find it, just so i can have a read. Do people think they are both equal in quality to each other? Im hoping once he is changed over it will improve his diet as he really doesnt seem to want anything fresh ive offered him, and his previous owner said he was fussy. Just what a first time parrot mummy needs lol. But my god, already do i love him to pieces, my housework has died as i cant stop sitting with him and talking to him, trying to start the bond lol. liz x

I converted Sid to Harrison's and it took about a week, he prefers the larger size as he likes to hold them. He has been tried on the Animalzone pellets but doesn't like them as they are softer and just ignores them, though he did like some of the muesli that they sent. As he prefers the Harrisons, this is what he shall be kept on but Ollie our conure loves Animalzone. When I converted Sid, I made a mash of veg and rice and added ground up pellets. And we have never looked back.

I'm just happy that Sid is on a good diet now. He was greedy for them to start with but now seems to only eat what he needs.

At present mine have Harrison's course, Zupreem and the Animalzone ones, but once they have finished the Harrison's and Zupreem I'll be giving them just the Animalzone ones as they are cheaper and there is more variety of foods with those, also they are just as good as Harrison's

Scarletts now stock the Animalzone ones too, so I can still buy them from her

oh I do wish Elvis would try something like that.  Jack and Leo are both on the Harrisons - they also like the bigger ones (coarse) so they can hold them x

Hi have you tried soaking the harrisons i some fresh orange juice ? It will take  some time to convert you not had your bird long so it will be unsure of a lot of many things just now, i get my pellets from http://www.vetuk.co.uk/index.php?main_page=advanced_search_result&search_in_description=1&keyword=harrisons the postage is free over £19.00 you might want to try them and give your bird more time to convert he may have thrown one but he did have a nibble so thats a start.
