It would be no problem to post a couple of people bags from waitrose, if you want?? I have had mine in the fridge for about 2 weeks and they are fine.

Let me know if you want me to go on a mass pulse buying mission!

I hope so but I've already mucked up as I put them all in soak in the same container as opposed to separating the chick peas. Hey ho, trial and error! Ive never had the confidence to do it before as there was limited info but John has outlined it beautifully so I thought I would give it a try. He's a top man x

Hi All

I was thinking we have a few new members joined of late so I thought I would just bring to the forefront a bit about sprouting and sprouts and there benefits.

If you want a process thatís quick and provides the best nutrition for your bird then getting in to sprouting provides you with both.

So first you need to soak , soaking is the process of putting sproutable food ( seeds, grains, nuts or legumes) in water for a period of time usually around 6-12hrs. when the sproutable food is soaked it absorbs water, this triggers a biochemical reaction inside and germination begins. Germination is the process to which growth begins, sprouting occurs after the seed germinates and is allowed to grow for a period of time.
During germination the seed increases its nutritional value, remember germination is the first step in sprouting, living foods that are geminated gives us the most natural source of vitamins, minerals enzymes and amino acids, when compared with mature vegetable plants, sprouts can yield a vitamin content of up to 30 times higher than vegetables.

For good health and wellness it is believed our birds need to consume hundreds of nutrients everyday, there are 2 reasons avian malnutrition is so prevalent. First, most birds are not fed all the nutrients they need and secondly these nutrients are not fed in a balanced amount.

When feeding a formulated pellet diet in conjunction with readily available avian vitamin and mineral supplements this can also cause an excess in certain nutrients that cause an in balance and this can also cause avian malnutrition.

All parrots Ė Amazons, African greys, macaws, and conures etc need to consume a variety of nutritionally balanced and wholesome foods daily, therefore thatís why I believe all birds would benefit from eating sprouts.

Remember sproutable foods reach there optimum nutritional value after 3 days growth.

I hope this helps the new members and on the sprouting section there is some really good step by step instructions on how to sprout.
