If you get him off the seed and onto a god pellet he will be getting a lot of what he needs. try making parrot mash and mixing everthing together so that he can't pick out the bits he likes

If Pavan is filling up on these other treats (too many grapes etc) he will not eat the veg or pulses.

I have read on other threads that the best thing to do is give a tiny amount of seed in the morning, take that out once he has finished eating and replace with veg, pellets or pulses etc.  Leave these as long as possible (keeping in mind that fresh foods should be removed after a couple of hours at the longest and sooner than that in hot weather).  Then in the evening give a small amount of seed again.

You obviously don't want him to be starving but he will continue to eat these treats if you give them to him readily

When introducing pellets whats the best way, as I was given some from the vet and i mixed them with the seeds and guess what he left all the pellets. Would giving just pellets in a bowl be the best option or has anyone done it another way. I will try with a mix veg mash today and see what happens.

I would do similar to above - give a little seed, then remove after he has eaten and replace with the pellets and some veggies.

If you read the diet section, the Grey stickies, this subject is covered.

I've read many items on here with what people feed their birds, you feed your birds processed human food or table food. You may as well feed them poison, biscuits, crackers, salty, sugary ,fatty foods. They will kill it. And make it chew its feet off. And kidney damage. I know Stumpy has one toe only. He was fed human food and now lives on healthy food. Look at his pics in Diary section, or Diet "The effects of a bad diet on a bird". Please dont, its not worth the risk.

Anyone tempted to feed human food, i feel so sorry for Stumpy by the way he is restricted on what he does, purely because what he was fed. : (

I'm not trying to start an argument but I feed Nico human food. She mostly eats exactly what I eat. Couscous, wholemeal pasta, veggies, beans, fruit, nuts, mash. Every night we share dinner and she gets a portion of what I eat. The only things that she gets that I don't eat is pellets, palm nuts and bread and the only thing I have that she doesn't is the occsional glass of wine and bit of avacado. I think we should be careful about saying no human food for parrots when what we mean is no processed, fatty or salty food.   It is perfectly ok for parrots to eat "human" foods as long as the owner knows what is allowed and what isn't.

my mum use to feed Casper a sunday dinner regular when he lived with her
fine you may think, spuds and veg
until you realized how much salt my mum cooked with, thank god this didnt go on for too long and he is now fed healthily
even us as humans shouldnt really add salt and sugar to our foods, but the thing is we make the choice , the poor birdie cant do that for himself   :nono:

Liz, when we say human foods we meant foods cooked for humans only, table foods as in those meant for humans dinner and 99% of those are salted. There are lists of good fruit, veg, grains, beans, etc. so any normal person will figure out that if they have that cooked without salt, fat, etc. it will be good for the parrots too, but they won't feel like sharing their spaghetti bolognese, curry, pasta bake or any of those foods with their birds.
Again, let's stick to the safest versions of the advice on here and if any members have additional questions we can always go in more detail for specific foods, etc.

 it's not about education, I am not implying that someone is not educated enough.
It's about the most straightforward advice for the new parrot owners. They can then decide for themselves what to do once they know more, but when you have just got a parrot and have no idea what to do with the amount of information there is and controversial advice it can get very overwhelming, that is why giving the most straightforward and vet recommended (so to say) advice just seems like the right thing to do.
