The Right Diet
« on: December 11, 2011, 06:07:04 PM »

I am rehoming a Blue Fronted Amazon in January. The people that have her at the moment feed her seed and she seems to eat a lot of what they eat.
I wanted to start feeding her pellets i have read on here zupreem are good. Her owners say she tends to crack open nuts when they give them her but she does not eat them. Wondering what treats best to give her of she not like nuts? Also is it best to slowly wean her off seed onto pellets?? Obviously i would rather give her a better diet and not feed her our food!!

well done on rescuing the Amazon
seems like he isnt on the best diet possible at all  :nono:
the Animal zone pellets are good and most seem to take to them quite quickly
depends how you wanna go with the convertion
some do it quickly, some not so much
but if you want to try takin seed off completly and putting only the pellet in and nothing else and see how they go over a couple days i doubt any bird will starve itself
just keep your eye on their weight (weigh at day one so you can compare)
keep us posted

Good advice from Mandi   there are some topics on converting in the diet section. Human food leads to all sorts of problems so it's a good idea to get her off those as quickly as possible. well done on offering her a new home

If you buy these pellets on line which is the best website? Can anyone recommend the best place to buy them online to get the best deal??
