Tidymix Seed .......Anyone With Experience Of It?
« on: October 30, 2011, 03:06:46 AM »

My Grey is really conservative in what he eats. Someone suggested Tidymix as a good, healthy option, and because the seeds are nearly all out of their shells, there is less mess. I bought some, but he only seems to be interested in the small percentage of seeds still intact with their shells (hemp I think) and ignores the rest. Should I persevere, and if he gets fed up eating hemp all day, maybe he will try the rest. If not it looks like there is going to be an awful lot of waste, and its not cheap! Any ideas?

Tidymix is the best of the seed mixes, but have you tried him on pellets?  Have a look in the diet section there are lots of things that you can do to change him over.

That's the problem with the seed mixes unfortunately, they can just pick out the bits they like. I feed pellets for this very reason. She has to eat the whole thing. Does he eat a good variety of veggies, beans and pulses as well?

I feed all of mine on Tidy mix, there is very little waste from this mix and as it of human grade it is very clean. I also feed fruit and veg but do use calcium supplement as this is vital for greys. The pellets already have calcium in so there is no need for any added supplement as it is a complete diet!
Hope this is of some help!

I use Tidymix, and I have found the trick is to only put smallish amounts in the bowl at once, then they do eat everything (apart from the banana and garlic sticks)
If I fill the bowls they will pick out their favourites.

I fed Casper on it when he came and started to try and convert him to pellets which was not easy at all. Until, I add, I came over all hard and gave him nothing else after his breakfast of Tidymix. He converted really quickly and screeches for them now. I have run out of the seed now so thats that. He used to be very selective and seemed to eat the shelled seeds and never ever the garlic sticks, those lumps of rock hard fruit, whatever it was and was little fussed with banana so I am glad he now has Harrisons as his main

There's no water in it so  wouldn't have thought it would freeze particularly well. Maybe others know different though

If I buy seeds from the pet shop I have to freeze them, and never had any problem with them.

Thanks for your replies. yes I am aware that he needs veggies, pulses, fruit and a calcium supplement (but sparingly). I steam veggies every evening for my mother and myself, so he gets sweet potato, brussel sprouts, broccoli, sweetcorn, whatever we are having. he enjoys trashing them, and makes a real mess, but I see he does eat a smal percentage of it.  I sprout the pulses, so they are soft. I try to vary what he gets.

I believe pomegranate is an excellent source of vitamins. When I lived in Portugal, a neigbour had a large tree which fruited every year. I was invited to help myself. The fruit had a deep red colour and were very tasty. The stuff I buy here in supermarkets is a pale pink and pretty bland in comparison. Anyone know of a good source of fresh pomegranates - perhaps online?

I have 15 parrots here, 3 of which are Greys and they all have TidyMix and do well on it. They also have the TidyMix sprouted seeds and other cooked stuff plus fruit and veg. I have never been keen on pelleted diets, though I know they work well for alot of people.
