Tidymix
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:19:01 PM »

Hi Guys just wondering if any of you feed your greys on Tidymix parrot food?

I have now just ordered my first batch after a breeder highly recommended it to me.She very kindly gave me half a bag when i bought her birds. The food is suitable for human comsumption ( if thats what you like??) and delivery is super fast and you get a months grace before payment is required!!
Pretty much all the seed in the mix is without husks so there is very little mess or waste , i have  2 pairs on this and 2 on a normal seed diet which i am trying to wean over . I find the birds are eating all the food and dont seem to eat as much as that of the old diet.
It comes in 22.68kg bags costing £42.50 per bag but if you buy a bulk load its much better value with free delivery baring in mind normal parrot food sacks are 12.5kg!
On top of this mine get plenty of fruit and veg, palm oil extract, calcium supplement and breedmax hopefully keeping them in good order

My birds have tidy mix its one of the best quality seeds there is and has won several awards from avian vets.
I suggest you still give pellets though although mine won't touch them so I have to supplement them with fruit and veg etc instead :)

My birds had Tidymix before converting them to Harrisons, they still have the seed in their playstand bowl for when they're out. Po won't touch pellets as yet and he too eats Tidymix.

Paula advised me to feedCasper a combination of Tidymix and pellets. It is good stuff, much nicer than some seed mixes I have seen. Casper farts every time he comes across a pellet and flings it.

The only problem with tidymix and other mixes is they can pick out what they like and discard the rest which they can't do with pellets, but saying that if they won't eat pellets and are getting plenty of veg/pulses/sprouts/fruit etc then it is one of the best

Can you tell me where you all get your tidymix from please. What is the delivery if any?
Hope it doesn't come down to me needing to use it but just in case.
Many thanks.

Our avian specialist shop recommended tidymix. It's what they feed their birds. Looks like good stuff

It's £5.25 delivery, I've actually just ordered some from Northern parrots, their delivery is only £3.99.

I've given up with Charlie, he just won't eat pellets.  He will eat the occasional Zupreem fruity, but all harrisons, zupreem natural, tropicana end up on the bottom of his cage.  So, I'm putting him on tidymix, he will still have his pellets crushed up in his chop.  It's such a waste of money for him....I've tried coarse and fine Harrisons and he's having none of it.

Pat, I'm thinking I may end up going down this route with Tru. The only thing that is worrying me is how much he used to waste in the normal seed mix. He didn't touch the bananna chips. I have brought him dried fruit, he doesn't seem bothered by them. He left the coloured bits, whcih are apprantly like pellets. And left all the small seeds bits. So will I be in the same boat but with a different food. I suppose I won't know until I try.

The reason I wanted him on pellets in the first place other than the fact it is meant to be better for them is the fact that out of a 15kg bag of food I bet half of it was thrown out. I hate waste especially when it's the good stuff going to waste.

Will seriously consider this.
Does anyone buy the soaking seed mix aswell?
Is that litterally soak then feed, or soak/sprout then feed?
Is there no cooking involved?
Sorry to keep posting on this thread, hope o.p doesn't mind.

I'm never sure about these mixes. Some of them contain kidney beans which need to be cooked so I always cook everything for 1/2 hour just to be on the safe side

I know what you are saying......when I first got Charlie he wasted a lot of his seed mix with stuff he didn't eat, but at least he ate some of it, plus with his veg/fruit and pulses, he'll be fine.  I would much rather him waste a bit of the seed mix than all of the Harrisons etc.

I will still offer the harrisons on there own and when made into biscuits but if I buy the tidymix I won't be putting the pellets on his soaked seeds as he is turning his nose up at these with them added. Then about a week before I run out of Harrisons completly he will eat them and I will think "great" and buy him a new bag. Then he won't touch them and I will say "your a bugger" and he will laugh for the 1st time. And I will forgive him.
