Yeah, no bother, my two love to pick out the nuts.  I crack them a little bit first just to weaken them and then they break the shells.  You can also freeze nuts so they can have them all the year round.  Brazil nuts aren't very good for them, but hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts they can all be frozen, they love them.
