Hi Everybody,
Otis, made great strides in his confidence level, this morning.
He stepped up, let me get him about 6 inches from his cage, without too much anticipation. Twice, I tried to return him to his playtop, he didn't want to go back to his cage. :yahoo:
He's so awesome, I can't stand it!!!

Well today, Otis and I, made huge strides.
He has a perch on the outside of his cage. He sits there at meal time, looking for hand outs and head scratches. He hasn't asked to step up from that local before.
I sat down on the floor next to the perch, reached to scratch his head, he didn't present his head lie he does for scratches.
Well, then I presented my hand, asked him to step up....here we go!
He did it!!!
I was able to bring him away from his cage...OK, just inches, but I'll take it!!   :yahoo:
We did it about 3-5 times with each time being a little farther and longer!
I am so happy.
I take my time...read his body language and gauge closely what he is comfortable with. I want him to trust me with his life.
He is a great little guy.

Oh and by the way....my break through - 30 post!  :run  :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Well I hope everybody had a great Christmas and New Years.
We here had a busy season as usual. Now it is slightly back to normal.
Today's adventure belongs to Otis.
He actually cleaned his own cage today, by pulling the top papers out of his cage onto the floor. Of course shredding a little, OK allot of the paper before it hit the floor.
Then I looked over and he had disappeared, hmmm, where did the little penguin go?
Here he comes around the corner of the coffee table. Little booger had crawled out of his cage, he's going for a walk .
So I let him of course. Laid on the floor hoping he would come over to me. He did for a second. Then off to explore more.
He did this about 4 times on his own. He climb back up to his cage then back to the floor. It only took about 6 months of me having him here to get comfortable to do this. Pretty cool!

That's a fantastic story!  I hope you have an Otis diary.  I don't know if Timneh's are timid, but Darwin (CAG) doesn't like to be picked up from his cage play top...anywhere else he is good at step up.  But play top I have to literally get out the step ladder so I am domineering over top of him and with one hand wrangle him to a corner and the other hand scoop under his belly.  Darwin is young and needs lots of training still...but your Otis sounds well on his way!  Keep up the love and work I'm sure he (and you) will have a forever loving bond!  And you are completely accurate I can't even imagine my life without Darwin, I have no children but my 2 birds and 1 cat are just that to me!!
