Gandie is on a rampage
« on: July 20, 2018, 08:49:02 PM »

Hello

So Gandie is 10 years old. I believe he was hand reared as he was silly game when I got him but as a rescue I canít be sure.

He started attacking our Senegal last year - they had been co habiting our 2nd bedroom converted into a bird room for about 7 years. All of a sudden Gandie started attacking the Senegal constantly. We had to introduce separate time out of the cages as the Senegal was getting hurt. Once out of his cage all Gandie wanted to do was get at the Senegal. I tried for 6 months to resettle them but could t fix the issue before our wee Senegal died of old age.

So, we decided to move Gandies cage into the living room so he could have more company and heís still getting 4+ hours a day out of his cage. Heís been in the living room since January and weíve been in our routers of times in and out since then.
The last week heís been going out of his way to bite me when heís out. Heís also lunging at me when Iím near the cage.
Iíve always been his person and number one care giver.

When out heíll approach me like he wants a tickle or attention, no signs of fear or aggression, as I put my finger out heíll lunge, grab me and bite down. Every single time.
He doesnít show any warnings that Iím used to, normallosture and feather position, no pin point eyes or anything like that. He even puts his head down for a rub, opens his eyes at the last second and grabs me. Beak biting and holds on with his feet.
Doesnít matter where I sit this happens.

Iíve been giving him extra treats trying to re make friends and heís letting me touch him through the cage bars but as soon as heís out heís after me. I canít even have a drink in my hand as heíll fly over and start biting the hand thatís holding the drink. Before this I would offer him the drink (itís usually water or fruit juice) and heíd take it fine. Now heís on the cup biting my hand.

Nothing has changed in the room or environment. I canít think what Iíve done to upset him or what is causing this.

Any suggestions on how we can overcome this or thoughts into what could be causing the issues?

You havenít changed your appearance at all have you? Mine went through a phase of this when I got a new necklace, took me ages to narrow it down. Also if my roots need doing & thereís some silver hair showing through my girl is wary.

It could be hormonal too, the light nights can unbalance them, do you cover the cage? If so do it a bit earlier on a night, your grey could be tired, if they donít have 12 hours dark sleep time they can get super grumpy

Yeah give that a go, it often works wonders, they are like children who need more sleep
