Harness.. A lesson learnt :(
« on: April 20, 2016, 12:08:08 PM »

Always been proud of Ozzy, he was harness trained by the breeder but never liked it, I could always get it on and off by giving him a treat every step of the process of getting it on.  Anway, over winter I hadn't put it on at all as we haven't been out in the garden for any period of time.  Sunny and warm on Sunday so I thought I would slip it on. Managed to get it over his head with him squaking, still giving treats, over the wings no problem, tightened it up and got a warning bite whilst squaking, then he took off flying all round the house so I thought I had better get it straight off him, managed to catch him and get him back on his stand where he grabbed a chunk of feathers from his neck and ripped them out.  I managed to get it off him by pinning him down between my knees, I collected about 10 bites and I dont think he will ever let me put it on him again :(  Lesson learnt, I really wish I had kept putting it on him over winter, Im absolutely gutted that I cant have him on my shoulder outside now  :cry2: :cry2: :cry2:

its not something that many like to have on, :( its so frustrating because they'd love being outside. It is something that you have to constantly do to keep them used to it.

You may win him over again but it's probably going to involve struggles and sulking :D

I'm lucky with my girls as they don't bite me so I can get the harness on easy
Skittles again don't yet bite so I still Managed it the other day.
To be honest I don't think it's a natural thing and I also think of the predators out there
Iv had to shove skittles up my jumper cause a dog came running at us and the owner was quite rude
I think a aviary or travel cage is much safer xx

Yeah agree with both Kaz and Mand   Its just so sad as he hates cageing so much, we dont have the room for an aviary and it was just nice to get that on him and sit outside. Hey ho, he'll have to put up with the cage outside and me telling him off constantly :)

He's come a very long way in the last 6 months, from bald neck, partial chest and partial back - he is now fully feathered, just plucking his downies.  Unfortunately the harness incident has left him with a hole in his neck feathers :(
