I do like the idea of keyrings yes. Items like the key rings and t-shirts etc are ideal for us, and obviously would help in supporting the site, but by definition, there is a limited number of people who are going to see them.
I was thinking more of taking the cause outside the active membership if it is possible.
Maybe it will be possible to do with geffs idea of starting small so that we can invest the capital required to take it further. I am sure there are many vets, and responsible shops/breeders who are only too aware of the situations the birds find themselves in.
Consequently I believe many of them would be willing to assist in fund raising.

That's a really good idea, yeah, but a logistics nightmare.  You have to do stock take when you leave some with the vets, they are usually too busy so it's left "on trust" on the reception desk.  Then you would have to go back and take the money and restock.  The money would have to be paid into a bank and then into the paypal account.  For something like that to happen, there would need to be one central place that dealt with the money and the issuing of the items to keep it from being open to error.

I agree that its a logistical nightmare, although I am sure from the writings on this site that we have the people able and willing to control all the aspects. Consequently it would be a high return venture, while controlling the level of risk. With a small number of small investers, we could generate enough capital to take it further, as long as its centrally managed as you said.
I was not suggesting we wade straight in however. It is going to take a lot of discussion to get to a proper business plan. In this day and age of course its more possible to do with Instant messaging and email.

Personally I wouldn't wear a wrist band as I don't even wear a watch but I would buy a keyring and a t-shirt

To be honest Nikki, I wouldn't wear one myself but it wouldn't stop me buying it. They are recognised as the modern equivalent of the poppy, they are symbolic of support rather than being worn all year round.
However, a lot of kids wear them simply as a fashion accessory, I know my daughter does
