Ceiling swing for my birds
« on: September 23, 2014, 11:00:04 AM »

Hi,

I would like to hang a large parrot swing from the ceiling, above the play area for my greys. What's the best way to do this?

Will the screw hooks be secure enough if just screwed up into the plasterboard/ceiling or should I locate the wooden joists and screw from there?

What do others do?

Personally, I would locate the joists (get my other half to locate them  :cheekywink:) just to be on the safe side as  you said large swing, wooden ones can be quite heavy

some of the swings are pretty heavy so i'd personally locate the joist for safety :) You could use plasterboard rawl plugs but they'd need to be pretty sturdy.

We have a large spiral rope that is going on the ceiling. I went to homebase and found a hook that goes through the ceiling and the back opens out behind it on the other side of the hole. It says it takes up to 20kgs so should be fine for the rope and the bird and it means that the rope can go exactly where you want it.

Ah that's great, thanks for the advice.
Off to Home Base then to find those hooks! :crossed

Hi Ozzy's Mum

I was just wondering if you could tell me what exactly the ceiling hook you've got from homebase is called.

Many Thanks

It might be the type for plasterboard, they splay out when you push them through, didn't know you could get them in hooks, that would be brill
