Cordless Vacuums
« on: May 06, 2015, 11:51:13 AM »

I'm after a cordless vacuum, because we work from home and it can get messy plus a parrot who is not happy unless he's tap dancing in his pellet bowl!  I hoover at least 4 times a day and there is  LOT of pellets that get sucked up.  Just wondering if anyone has a cordless that is happy to pick up general parrot "stuff"?  Been looking at the new Dyson cordless and I like the look of it.  Ive used the new Vax cordless and the hose wouldnt have a strong enough suction I dont think
Any thoughts?

ok i'm a bit of a fanatic with vacuums, i've got the Gtech Air Ram which is absolutely fantastic, it's an upright 'sweeper' kind of vacuum but it has suction, and is pretty powerful. They do a hand held cordless one too but i have no experience with that, however knowing Gtech it think it would be pretty impressive.

I have the Dyson DC34 handheld, which is also brilliant, but as Mandi says, its doesn't pick up everything, perhaps the more powerful one would though.

i have also just bought the Shark Lift off vacuum, and i'm in love with that. although it's not cordless it has a lift away function so it's more of a carry thing which is a bit easier. As an upright it falls over alot, but i tolerate that for all it's other brilliance :D

I don't think you can get one that does all unfortunately.

Did you get rid of the dyson pet one you had Kaz? I remember you saying it wouldn't pick up pellets. I like my dyson its a few years old now but still works well it does fall over a lot when using the hose part which is annoying. I have a little hand held too but its not the best lol

Yeah I got rid of it Lynn,  I sold it on gumtree, it was an absolute waste of time. It's really tarnished np my view of Dyson as it was also appalling customer service.

Mine was the new lightweight ones that the handle pushes right down, useless,.
The older dysons are still really good.. When I was at the gadget show they had the new bigger dysons there, nearly 500, that's ridiculous. I think dyson need to get back to reality the are so overpriced now.

Thanks girls, very helpful, it was the dyson v6 thingy, the new one - mum had the gtech one but it didnt pick up fur very well so I persuaded her to get the vax cordless and thats fab, just not the hose bit.  Dyson is so overpriced its ridiculous but they say its the strongest suction of all cordless so I was really hoping it would be good.
Mandi, was it the Animal that didnt pick up the pellets?

Mandy i had the DC50 multifloor. The reason i bought it was because it was lightweight. The moment i used it i realised that the nozzle jammed with pellets as its a really weird and small shaped hole the hose, so no work around.

I tried to return it to currys a couple of days later who said i'd have to return via Dyson. Numerous emails to and from Dyson, and the outcome was 'it was not designed to pick up parrot pellet food'

Literally that was it. Utterly disgusting, it wasn't a week old when i tried to return it.

I've got the dyson cordless, I'm sick of it ,it keeps cutting out,I've got a rowenta Air Force cordless it's good and sucks up most stuff. I like the look of the ram one that kazz has but it's very expensive as well. Has anyone tried the karcher sweeper

Geeze! Dyson make a big hooha about their customer service being fab as its UK based, thats disguisting Kaz, should have been a Watchdog matter.  I think I'll stay way clear of that.  Will look into the others but cost dependent  :blow:
Thanks

We had for years & years the Dyson  DC 01 & I kid you not folks  :nono: I only took it to the tip the other week, it was still working but taped up all over the place   . I cant remember how old it was but my dad got us it & he passed away 22yrs ago !! How many pellets did that suck up
Then we got a DC 04  that's now at the caravan :cheekywink:
. For the birds we use the G Tech rechargeable but its only the cheap version but   is quick & light & we also have a Hoover Hurricane & a Hoover Sprite for upstairs  :cheekywink:
We bought those last year just one week before the government announced that vacuum cleaners had to now have less wattage  :cheekywink:
We was after buying another Dyson & went in a little shop that's always sold em to be told hes stopped selling em as they aren't as well made now. I think the Dysons are now made in Poland  not sure

  Are you sure you have enough vacuums there   Yeah Dysons closed their factory in Wiltshire to move overseas as it was cheaper!  Do you find the Gtech any good for picking up the larger bits of parrot destruction/food?

You asked if we have enough vacuums ???
Well I missed one off
We also have a rechargeable Black & Decker Dustbuster   .
We don't use that a lot :nono:
coz Tim thinks she can chase after it & bite the end of it up.
Yes the little G Tech does pick up most things Parrot wise& the handle drops right down to get right under the cage .It just doesn't like a lot of bits of string round the rollers off the rope perches :nono:
