Swing advice please :)
« on: April 19, 2016, 11:26:29 AM »

The only time that Ozzy will accept his cage and stay in there is at bed time, he sleeps on a swing which is wooden, loves it!  I have a concrete perch but as he is never in his cage its a waste of time, however if I got him a concrete swing....  :lala:
My question is, which do you think is better, twisted or round bearing in mind the hours he spends on it?

They are not the most comfortable perches for them to sleep on, that's why they tend to prefer wood or rope.

If he doesn't like the swing he possibly might just not go on it too. Where does he eat? is there anyway to introduce a concrete/nail trimming perch in that location?

Tbh my brother did this recently have rope in bed cages, he pointed out we used to have nail trimmers, I'll be going back.

Edit, twisted or not find size is more important.

Hmmm thanks guys, maybe I'll give it a miss then, Kaz he's a complete pain, he'll stay in his cage literally for a few mins if Im there, the second I go he's stressed and plucks.  He spends all day out on his Java perch, its not a huge one so no way of adding additional pieces to it sadly. We just dont have the room for a bigger one.  He eats there too.  He will sometimes eat in his cage if he's really hungry and his concrete perch is by his food bowl, but litereally 5 mins later and he's stressing.

Can't you screw a stone perch onto the Java perch in anyway ?
Or wrap some sand type covering round some ? X

Mandie I just love  these little avian challenges where perches and wood are concerned.
I would measure the length of the stud thread on the stone perch and buy a piece of wood about 30cmt long, thin enough for the stud thread to slot through and fasten it with strong tie wraps to the Java tree and that wouldn't take up any more room.If you could get Ozzy to use it he could also chew the wood up at the same time while sitting on the perch

Waheeey thats a good idea Dave, I hadn't really given much thought to adding perches to his perch but my other half is a genius so he could definately do that!  Its the concerete I really need for his nails.  Although he will let me file them he has to be "in the mood"
