Gizmo then and now
« on: July 04, 2014, 08:22:06 PM »

As some of you will know we've had ongoing feather issues with Gizmo when she developed a habit of holding her left wing and chewing her flight feathers through anxiety whenever I left the room or the house, it was really heart wrenching to see and ive shed so many tears over her.

After numerous visits to our avian vet she had feathers pulled to start new regrowth but continued holding and chewing the wing so on the vets advice we went for the hormone implant to help with her separation anxiety, at the same time I got the new much bigger cage, added a load more puzzle and foraging toys to keep her busy especially when im about to leave the house and she rarely notices me leaving her now she's a completely different bird im so proud of her and she is now fully flighted too.
I'll leave u with a few pics of how she was and how she is now

This is her tonight

just one chewed feather remains that one was left by the vet and she hasn't chewed at all since, love this girl.

Thanks mandi & john. I do hope she continues to leave it alone. She hasn't chewed for a good while now so I think we've turned a corner. I do think the time she spends foraging has played a big part in breaking the habit so I need to keep providing different things to keep that beak and brain busy :)
