Sounds like he's bonding with her/him it is normal in courtship, but something not to be encouraged. It's a difficult one it certainly needs to be completely discouraged think of it as heavy petting that is going to lead some where. Then it's stopped how would you feel? Better not to even get to this point. I put Willow down at the slightest bit of amorous hint, and walk away.

As mentioned it's not so much the preening I'm sure it actually just trained us to deal with the plucking better. We give of subtle cues all day that they pick up on it. If it's stress it affects the flock as whole as bird owners we are a member of a flock. Someone enters the flock or is suddenly anxious there response would be what is it and ready for flight, not oh dear why are you anxious/stressed/tired etc...?

You need to address the over bonding, he's all loved up then the person who he has all these affections for leaves/spurns him.. They don't understand we've got to go to school/ work etc.. But it's better not to get these feelings at all as when removing them, will have consequences.

Once the over bonding is addressed it'll be easier. As the stress article the over bonding is probable only the tipping point other stress factors will also need to be addressed.

The clicker training I found just focused the flocks reaction to the plucking but stress levels where also reduced. No one thing will fix it, but an understanding of the environmental causes will help go in the right direction.

Wow feather monkey you done a fab job with your grey he's gorgeous.
So ignore the plucking click on the correct preening. And I won't discuss this any further in front of him perhaps he knows. How do I conquer the over bonding I can't make him dislike anyone how do I go about that ??

I actually didn't think of it until talking on here but I do think its a big possibility !!! When she is in she's doing her coursework in her room or out with her friends or at work where as before she was always at his side. My poor baby misses my daughter !!! Trouble is it looks like he's now trying to bond with my second eldest daughter and it won't be long before she's at college etc !!! Why won't he bond with me lol I'm always here. Don't get me wrong he likes me and sits on me etc but it would save more heartache later if he preferred me lol

No accounting for their likes & dislikes, bless well maybe get your other daughter to pay less attention & maybe he won't over bond?

What Kazky said try to stop anyone encouraging the amorous behaviour.

IMO the clicking and encouraging isn't so much retraining, well not my believe but it just helps us refocus and learn to not reinforce the negative behaviour. Really what is going to help more is what you're doing by assessing the environmental factors i.e missing your daughter.. I suspect there also will be other factors too.

You need to establish it so they don't miss someone. Willow adores me but he is also tight with my brother. Don't allow any touching that can be misconstrued so just the head and the neck.

Over bonding will always cause problems it's up to us to discourage it and manage it.. We tend to think as individuals but as bird owners it is a flock that has individuals in it. Managing the flock environment will bring better rewards rather than focusing on individuals.

hi kirsty

i cant really add anything to what as been said or suggested in other posts about reds plucking wish i could.. but the one thing i would advise on and i know it will be difficult for you as you want to do the very best for red. but as you are planning on taking red to have his bloods done in January i would advise you to not add or alter his diet or food . don't add any extra calcium or vitamins probates till after you have been to the vets in January. otherwise it might give you a wrong diagnosis. if this make sense  say red as been lacking in vit abcd and you now give him some you wont know if that was the course or not. they might be nothing wrong with reds bloods but you want to know that. if you start adding vits and calcium now it could change the results its just a thought.
