Scruff has started the dreaded plucking - any adviceA
« on: January 30, 2017, 02:25:11 PM »

Hi guys,

Haven't been on for ages as everything been great, till last night.

Scruff has started plucking her chest and already bald patch appeared just above her breast bone.
She was hatched October 2011, 6Yrs. Has her own cage but shares room with Elvis (AGP approx 8yrs female). Absolutely nothing has changed in the daily routine. UV lamp is on from 08.00 till bed 22.00. Diet is low sunflower seed mix, veg & fruit and calcivet supplement (Tried dried diet without joy) Sprayed twice a week with super plume.

Vet appointment booked. Till I get her in for check up - To spray or not to spray?
I was thinking warm misting with plain water, but will this incourage more preening and thus more plucking?

Hi , sorry to read this
Without a vet doin blood teats and ruling anything out you don't really know , but I would spray with plain water not a plume spray
They often build a residue up on the feathers and this can cause plucking
Keep up posted and I hope she's fine :)
It could just be something you've put new in the room that she took a dislike to x

Hi Mandi,
Thanks I'm leaning towards the plume spray as the trigger. Will take advice and stick to warm water. vet appointment this Friday.
