aww poor popeye, some people are horrible.

you will win him over, as you say it will take time for him to trust you, but if you take it slowly he'll know that you are going to treat him well.

well done for taking him on :)

Hi and welcome to you and Popeye, good to hear he has settled in

Do you leave his for open during the day? It would be better to let him come to you rather than putting your hand in his cage. I think many make this mistake in the early days and often get bitten out of frustration on the birds part. As you say he was handled roughly so could be nervous of hands. A good way to let him know you won't hurt him is to put your hands, then arms around the cage, as if to hug it and slowly move them over the cage while talking to Popeye. Can't wait for photos of him :)

Jules if I put my arms around the cages of any of mine that bit me I'd be savaged :panic:
Coco is very cage territorial and would take a limb :baseballbat:
Handling them ain't important to a degree
Iv had Dave 4 yrs and never handled him yet
Yet he comes out all the time and we get him back in without a problem :)
I guess they all different x

Yeah as Mandi says just gauge your birds reaction before going into their safe area, sometimes our arms scare them (mine scare me every time I see them I. The mirror) lol

Yes sorry I wasn't thinking  :nono:

This is what I did with rocky my Amazon, someone recommended to this and it did work to some extent. I was able to go inside his cage and move bowls and things but not to touch him as he would lunge to start with x
