Avian Lamp Necessary or Not ?
« on: December 27, 2015, 08:29:39 AM »

I have rad a few articles on here mentioning avian lamps, I am not sure if Charlie my CAG needs one or not............what problems may occur without one?

He is kept in a room with a north facing window so doesn't get any direct sunlight, should I buy a lamp for him ?

How often should they be used ?

Lots of questions I know, but this is the place to get them answered :)

Without a doubt you deffo need one.
Without going into great detail.

Its no different to you getting no sun  all year round.
Ours is used every day 365days a year for around 3 hrs a day as like you we cant get our birds outside due to two massive steps outside .
Scarlett always has various ones from clip ons to stands, have a look on her website.Hope this helps

Iv spoken in depth to the rep
amongst other things uv is needed for calcium , digestion, seeing in true colour , feather condition and general well being
Without one he could get rickets, suffer from fits :(
It really is a must x

I think they are a must, definatetly, especially if birds aren't going to be outside all year round. Not only do they provide enough uv to convert vitamins etc, it also helps birds to see more 'colour' as their eyes see things differently to us. I definatetly noticed a difference in jaspers molting pattern x

I'm currently trying to convince a friend that he needs one for his grey, he thinks because his feathers are in good condition, and he eats healthily, that he doesn't need one. I think alot of people think this way, and also think that sunshine through a window is enough and it isn't :)
