discharge and tears from my AG eye
« on: June 28, 2016, 09:20:09 PM »

Dear All;

I would like your opinion on the following health issue that my AG "Sagir" is facing. 2 days ago i woke up to see Sagir sitting in the buttom of his cage and i got scared. i started talking to him and noticed a discharge coming from its eye (only one eye). in our area there is no avian Vets so i started looking for anything to do for him. i started with Amoxiciline, i put half in his water. after 8 hours he is still the same but he is not sleeping in the butto of the cage anymore. he just done talk as he used to and his movement are very less than before. so i started looking for the internet on anything regarding his eye disease and i found out that in some cases related to eye discharge, the give the bird Doxicycline, i did that 2 days ago. up until now hi eye is still the same, not better but not worse.

Can you please advise me on what to do. Sagir is a part of the family and my wife, boy and daughter are all praying for his recovery and we feel we are not ding enough.

Please help.

My instinct screams vet, my little googling is a possible upper respiratory problem.

I'd keep warm, if vet is really not possible then I'd give f10 on a nebuliser along side antibiotics. Honestly though until diagnosis, it's difficult to suggest anything.

Can you not find an avian vet on the end of a phone?

This definitely needs a vet, you say there are no avian vets around you, but you will need to find one for any possible future problems.

You really can't have an exotic without being able to sort out problems if they arise, well obviously you can but you'll run into difficulties.

There are avian vets online, there will be a charge for their advice, but please don't treat this with the medicines you are reading about until you get proper medical advice, you could do more damage in the long run.

Where abouts are you, we can maybe help with your search for an avian vet?

Hope you managed to sort out Sagirs eye problem. It could be anything from a seed or something stuck or he's hurt himself somehow, hopefully not serious :(
