Eye
« on: March 22, 2014, 07:41:32 AM »

Morning all
My grey seems to be keeping one eye closed this morning. He does open it now and then and other than that seems well. He's eating and drinking.
It's almost like he is squinting.
I have a 24hr Medivet up the road who are open that say they don't have an avian specific vet but can check his eye to see if it's infected.
My other 2 options are Hatfield and Romford both half hour away but they're not open yet and not sure if I will get an appointment today.
What are your thoughts?
With eye issues I'm not sure I want to wait it out for the weekend to see if it goes away.

I would see an avian vet, could he have bumped his eye during the night? Does he have a graze or any bruising?

I can't see anything obvious at all. No discharge. He's not scratching it.

Hmmmm strange. If you're worried then just phone them and see if they can fit him in.

Hope he's ok :flowers:

Thanks I managed to get an appointment for 930 although didn't get there Til 945 as it was much further than I thought!
The vet put some drops in his eye which revealed a small abrasion. Got some antibiotic eye drops to put in once a day.
Also got him DNA tested while he was there. We shall see if he really is a he :)
Should clear up in a week so he says.
Really pleased with the service and vet. Bishops vetinary surgery Hatfield.

Glad you got sorted out, sounds like a good vets.
Any eye injuries sometimes are slow healing but usually heal without too many issues.

Thanks John and Scarlett. Makes me sad seeing him with one eye shut but he's chirpy. He has a honey stick for being brave at the vet :) surprised how well behaved he was!

Yeah worse than kids as they can't tell you what's wrong. Hope it heals soon.

It makes me sad too, especially when it`s eyes.

Harley is forever having a red or grazed area above his eyes because he smashes his toys around!

All healed by the way. Took 3 days of drops and then he was all back to normal and getting up to mischief :)
