Help needed please
« on: October 25, 2015, 09:06:36 PM »

My Parrot is 12 years old and really ill, i have phoned a few vets but no one is there who knows anything about birds. About 3 days ago i noticed blood coming from her behind, at first the pdsa said it might be something called egging and she should be fine but she seams to be taking a turn for the worst. She has stopped eating and keeps falling of her perch, ever now and then she squarks in pain and we are all verry worried. if anyone knows anything that could help we would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Zoe

What area are you Zoe we may be able to help you find one locally? That bird needs an avian vet urgently by the sounds of it.

If you Google avian vets in Sheffield you may find one that will have an 'interest' in avian / exotics which will be better than none at all

There's the Sheffield Animal Hospital in Baslow, south Yorkshire, is that close to you?

Sounds like she's egg bound, the bleeding could be through constant straining. Offer her warm water with honey, and try a bowl of steaming hot water, hold it under her vent, it might help.

Or Springfield vet surgery, firth park Sheffield, maybe not avian but surely could help. Hope to God your birds OK x
