Just want Jack to be happy....
« on: January 23, 2018, 08:35:56 PM »

I can't believe i'm writing this but am looking at re-homing my boy.
He's 25 years old and I have had him for 4 years. He was my grandparents before that for 10 years and a rescue to them. He was my grandads pride and joy and when he died I inherited Jack. Hes the only thing I have left of my grandad but Jack isn't happy....
Over the last year I have become a paramedic and am working longer hours and although my partner is home a lot, Jack is still unhappy.
He has always been more of a whistler than a talker but lately he has taken to repeating the same whistle over and over again.
He used o be hand tame with me but now will hardly let me stroke him let alone get him out.
It is breaking my heart writing this and if anyone has got any suggestions on helping him I will willingly try anything....
If not I need to find him a place he will be happy. I need to find someone who has had greys and knows how to handle them....
Please help us x

oh what an awful situation to be in :(

Firstly have you had him vet checked to make sure there's nothing physically wrong with him? unlikely but better to check. I think if i remember rightly you have an avian lamp for him don't you?

Before you consider rehoming maybe try spending some quality time with him, I know that's easier said than done, but if you have spare time just sit at his cage with him, try and feed him treats and talk to him lots.

He will be struggling with the change to your job and you not being there so much but many do manage as long as they have quality time out when you're home.

He sounds a little bit bored too. Does he have lots of toys to entertain him when you're away? do you leave a radio on for company?

Try these things initially and if you do need to find him a home we'll help from there. Good luck x

Hi Rachael, how are things going with Jack? Hope you still have him, if you still need a home I know of someone who might help x

i'd have him here if I could but with my grumpy neighbours, it's not possible as I already have two x
