Chew repellent
« on: January 11, 2015, 03:34:46 PM »

Hi Guys,
I have two problems. Scruff and Elvis have taken to ripping the carpet apart and Scruff also climbs the UV light stand and wants to eat the bulb!!
Easy solution is no out of cage time unless supervised but both my two have most of the day out and I would hate to start shutting them up.
- could I coat lamp base with vaseline so she can't climb it? Safe?
- Any chew repellent that is safe?
Many thanks

Welcome to the world of greys
It would be safest to lock em away i f unsupervised
I can't leave mine out or Id have no home left
Vaseline ain't safe and I don't think there is any safe repellent
They do need to learn to play in cages so it won't hurt them to be inside for a short while now and again x

We have 2 6ft x2ft plastic sheets on the wall & Im gonna put another up next week  :cheekywink:
.Ive ripped all the wood skirting boards off& replaced em in upvc ones :cheekywink:
.We have an axminster carpet down :panic:, it goes right under the cage so we have 2 lengths of  plastic carpet runner2x1 meters under the cage which can be obtained from any good carpet shop & are not expensive :nono: all this saves a multitude of mess & chewing :cheekywink:
.If our birds go on the floor we encourage them to go back on the plastic runners & we also have a big ladder off the runners onto the side of the cage so now they just go back up on their own most of the time
Please don't shut the birds in :nono: there only doing what comes natural to em You have to try & make things parrotproof& supervised . :secret:
