Hey
Does anyone know if it's safe to use olbas? I have a cold but wasn't sure how bird friendly it is as I know the stuff is rather strong smelling

It's a very strong smell so I wouldn't use it around your bird but If you are far from your bird & you have a drop on a tissue  or something it shouldn't be too bad. Don't steam it or anything though.
I now have bird safe essential oils & I diffuse peppermint when i'm suffering with my sinus's

Sounds good - where do you buy those from? I stopped using my diffuser.

They are called young living oils, they are really pure & completely bird safe, they are online, really expensive unfortunately but they last a good while and they have good health benefits for birds too

A long time ago when we first had our bird with Asper an avian vet at Harrogate (Harcourt Brown now retired) told us to put some vicks into hot water and let him inhale the steam, we did this quite a few times with no ill effect

There you go, should be fine then, yeah the oils are expensive, I ordered the essential 7 kit, it has pretty much most of what you'll need. I certainly won't be buying the 70 single ones!

I wasn`t trying to be clever Kaz, not something you`d generally know, but the vets advised it to be fine with Oliver all those years ago and it never harmed him so...:)

Oh I didn't think you were at all Scarlett, it's  good for someone who actually has experienced it. There's so many 'dont's' in the bird world & i'm sure some of them are wrong, so first hand experience is great. I would never have thought of using Vicks as you say & would probably have been too scared to.
