So many 'lost' birds
« on: May 12, 2014, 05:04:43 PM »

It breaks my heart when parrotalert is putting out so many lost bird notices from birds that have flown through windows/doors etc. it's clearly made worse with the warmer weather, surely you're on even higher alert when there are open windows? Anyway all the people who've lost birds are not idiots so I guess I just wanted to remind people that It could happen to anyone, I hope this doesn't sound like i'm preaching!

I only ever open the bathroom window, and so slightly that even my teeny ones can't get out, my husband made a fly screen door in the kitchen so that's safe. I can't begin to think about losing one of mine :(

How do you keep your babies safe?

Kaz, when mine are out
If it's the bird room they in then the doers are locked
We are thinkin of havin a aviary panel made for the doorway of that room so the back door isn't in the same space
And if they out on the play area in the kitchen the kitchen door is locked and I literally watch them play , same goes for the lounge
I also have a beware of the parrot sticker on my back door and the outer side of the kitchen door just to remind people
Even after  5 yrs my kids r shocking with doors so I'm always saying 'birds r out'
I don leave their site , it's hard work as I can't get much done but it works for me
And I also have a rule of 'no birds out whilst I'm not home' x

I've noticed the lots of lost birds too - it is heartbreaking even though Bobby died at the beginning of the year I am still a 'door freak' as my husband calls me.  My office is as hot as the hobs of hell  but when bobby was in there the window was never opened (until the lads at work took pity on me and made me an avairy panel) but I still didn't leave him alone even with that! I don't get how people can do that, anyone who has a bird must know how easily they get spooked and fly off, my Yvie freaks out if a shadow passes the window! The risk of them flying off is huge!

some people just don't think do they?  :nono:

i have a net curtain up at my living room window and only have the small top window open or just a small gap in the bigger side window, but only when i'm sitting near jasper. if i nip out to the toilet then i pull the window in, same with the kitchen window x

sorry you lost bobby chris x
