Hello everyone, my name is Kay, several months ago our dear friend died and we inherited his best friend Jasper, Jasper is a 15 year old African grey, at first I just wanted to respect our dear friend wishes, but after several weeks I fell head over heels in love with Jasper,

I am completely new to caring for a parrot, although we are animal lovers and have two dogs, Megan (Newfoundland) Harry (lurcher x)
A rescued canary called Tweety pie and a rescued cockatiel called Louie. a very lucky Turkey called Penny and some ex battery chickens.

This is a great forum with so much information, which of course I really need.

We have known Jasper since our friend got him when he was only a few months old, and my hubby always helped our friend with Jaspers nails etc.

So when we first brought Jasper home, Jasper went straight to my hubby, I was quite sad because I didn't think I stood a chance of being his friend, then after a couple of weeks Jasper came and sat on my shoulder, I was delighted

Jasper and I have become good friends, the only problem is now Jasper has become very aggressive with my hubby, who is trying to be friends, Jasper has bitten him quite bad for no apparent reason.

Now Jasper is settling in, he has been quite naughty, chewing on furniture and he even broke the TV just before Christmas

Here is my gorgeous little boy
(I was going to post his picture, but first I need to learn how to  :-[ )

Welcome to this Forum Kay and Jasper. The forum was and still is a source of great info and advice for us when we first got our Shankly who is 4 now. I am surprised that no one has acknowledged your post yet, the support on here has been so welcome.
Yes Jasper will chew anything he can, our furniture, vertical blinds, curtains, leather sofa stitching,  door frames, clothes etc are all victim but hey he's happy. I feel for your hubby too as I have had several nasty facial nips but nearly always when I haven't been paying attention to Shankly, he has never bitten my wife but she never lets him on her shoulder. All the best, Andy & Shankly.
