Hi Karl and welcome
Can I ask oscars routine
Does he come out his cage?
Plenty toys ?
Seperate play area or a ceiling rope to hang around on
How old is his cage ?
Was it chewed befor ?
It could be a attention thing
Or just one of them things he does
Congrats on your new greybee , here's to years of enjoyment :)

Can I ask why he can't come out his cage ?
Iv got Ones I can't handle but they all still come out everyday
And he needs lots of chewable toys to keep him stimulated and keep his beak down x

Hi Karl welcome to the forum .
First chance you get Karl bin the cage  :secret:.
Once hes settled in a bit Karl, start sitting with him, talking to him and open the cage door but don't force him out let him do that on his own
 .
Little story for you Karl
I rehomed a 26yr old bird that had never been let out of his cage for 3 yrs and by this his wing muscles have now gone on one side to such an extent that after so long his little wing just drops down .
Karl its pathetic to see so please don't let this happen to your new little friend.
Please tell us more about him eg his prevous feeding management  etc
We are here to help Karl  :cheekywink:

Hi thanx for that I didn't get much information about apart from he has had him from a 🐣 that's what he told me been to a local pet shop at sandhills in Preston and he told me they like porridge oats and sugar puffs. I have since tried him on both but he's shown no interest in either. The food I was given when I picked him up was from Wilkinsons he also told me he likes chillis and grapes. He talks loads and never stops but I will look at getting a new cage asap I was also told by the guy at the pet store to clip his wings and he could do that as he has had 30 years experience breeding greys but I would love to see if I can trace his background from his ring and maybe get a copy of his hatch certificate

Oh god they can't eat sugar puffs & things like that, a pet shop told you that?
They have very specific diet needs, start researching, they can't eat human food etc. Chillis are fine, grapes in moderation but you have to get him on some sort of decent diet, they can be converted
Can I ask if you have had experience of bird keeping previously?
Wing clipping is a controversial thing, don't just do it because the guy said, he needs to learn to use his wings poor thing :(

Yeah I had one a long time ago and I spit with my x and she sold him but he was really nasty and because of that reason I kept him in the cage.
I don't want to clip his wings I don't really agree with that i have him on the best mix of food I could buy but been told by that breeder he needs some pellets aswell he doesn't drink his water he keeps asking for cups of tea lol I want to give him the best and I would love nothing more then to have him out he has become one of the family now and we have only had him 2weeks on sun has is still very nervous with hands and tryst to bite you but he is starting to bow his head for a stroke which is really nice

Honestly you are in the best place to learn so read all you can here, we have very experienced owners & breeders. Also keep asking questions as you are :)
He must have clean water daily, he will drink it, you just won't see him do it, if he likes warm tea get some camomile tea, make it very weak & cool it so it's just warm, mine love that.
I have clipped the wings of mine at different times but for specific reasons, i'm not anti it, I believe it can help in some situations, but not this one, yours needs to learn his wings.
You need to give him time to learn to trust you, open the cage for half hour a day, just to let him see nothing bad happens. You'll get there :)

You'll probably never find out, if he's that old the breeder may not exist, if it start PS it is usually the parrot society, mostly bands nowadays have the hatch year & breeders initials. Mine has the breeders initials followed by PSUK & the hatch year

That great thank you I really thought sandhills knew what he was talking about  can any one give tips on trying to stop him biting or is it just a cause of waiting for him to get used to us like I say some times he does bow his head for a stroke

start to read the signs, if he puts his head down as if he's looking for a stroke, but looks up at you while doing so, don't stroke him.

If he fluffs us or his eyes pin just leave him be. Its just time, at the moment you are a stranger and could be a danger.

This is the time period you need to be as calm and relaxed with him as you can be. If he lets you stroke him without a bite, give him a treat.

Don't react if he bites, he'll think its a fantastic game, if you scream or shout it's a good game to them and you reinforce the biting so he'll keep trying to play that game.

Try not to put yourself in a position where you're going to get bitten at the moment. You will be very lucky not to get bitten in all honesty, it's how you deal with it which will set up or stop future bites.

They are such characters that they get under your skin, he's going to become a huge part of your life. I have a number of birds, and they all are amazing, but greys are just very special, and if you win him over, you will have a best friend for life :)
