I remember it clearly.  Every week my mum would go off to do the weekly shop and would take me with her as i must have been about 4 and not yet in school. I was always told that if i was good she would take me to the pet shop round the corner to see the mynah bird. i was soooo facinated at this glossy black bird in the tiny cage that talked back to me!  I am animal mad and had my own pony at 10yrs ( yes spoiled ;o) ) My sister was given a baby budgie for her 14th birthday and he was so sweet and lots of fun. i left home and went crazy for a few years    2 love birds  a cockateil,
a senegal who now lives with the ex and my darling Vern (sun conure) who only passed away 2 years back. 2.5 yrs ago i bought my eclectus forest followed 6 months later by coco my CAG who very sadly died in Oct from, well the vets still dont know why as he was so fit and healthy.   I am hoping to become the proud mum of another grey again as we miss coco so much.   But yep its all mothers fault taking me to that pet shop every week       parrots are amazing and i learn new things about them every week,  i love them

Bobby came via a friend of a friend who was moving back to the UK.
We'd always wanted one too but couldn't afford to layout 1,000 euros or more for one.  In hindsight, it was probably for the best as we were working such long hours at the time, and without ever having done any research to realise the interaction they need, the poor birdie would have been alone much of the time.  Now though, being lucky enough to work from home most of the time, I can devote hours to him - well, when I'm not sitting at my laptop on this site anyway!
(But WOW - I've never cleaned my house so often as I have to now!).

I know what you mean Guideycat - I'm going to have buy a new vac soon as I've nearly burned this one out vaccing up at the back of Jack.  Who would have thought such a small creature could generate so much mess

  The new partnership i have formed along with my wife and four children (two human, two African grey parrots) have taught me the defenition of pacience, and am now in it for the long haul. Hence the new forum. Please understand im quite shy and dont do much talking but i will be regular with my posts and pics and wil deffinatley be looking round the forum for tips and funny stuff see you all soon guys......

Thanks for the info on the hatching of the site.
Animal mad family as many seem to be on here... we currently have a rescued dog (Heinz), 4 cats (the tom we rescued was pregnant!!!!) 3 coldwater fish, 2 guinea pigs and Shrek, a ring-necked parakeet (more info on him to follow).
Have started reading through some of the threads and will start posting properly once I know my way around a bit more.

Hi all,
  I'm new to the forum and also a new owner of an African Grey Parrot called Rube. He is 12 weeks old and has a super temperament. He loves to be cuddled.
 I collected from the breeder last Sunday and each day that goes by, he is gaining more and more confidence. He is really coming out of his shell.  :-)
 I hope to meet other like minded people on this wonderful forum, gaining much knowledge through many experienced owners.

My dad had various parrots,my sister also had a grey. I loved them and have asked and asked for one from my hubby and when i reached yes that age i woke up that morning with an empty cage no bird and a book in it about greys to read but weeks later i got my Bingo at 11wks old that he had ordered  and it was the best present i got from hubby and my girls even tho i was expecting a holiday but hey Bingo was better and is for life where the holiday would have only been for a few weeks.Love him and all my other animals.

my hubby had always wanted a parrot,when we came to live in lanzarote he thought it would be ok as we had retired early and had tiled floors. I was terrified of birds,but i had only really had seen budgies. So we did loads of research and then found pablo when he was just a baby.  I said im not looking after it ,not cleaning its cage or feeding it ,you have to do everything. He said yes thats fine . 3 days later i did everything for pablo and i love him to bits he is my baby.
