Hello everyone. Not quite sure how to use this site myself just yet, i always read the website for help so i thought i would give it a try myself.

I now own a family african grey named Ted. Hes now got to the point were he trusts me to get onto my arm and let me touch him (so happy about that) but he goes onto my shoulder, regurgitates, waggles his tail and ive read up this is affectionate. I dont quite feel comfortable just yet, how can i just get him to stay on my arm or should i just accept  him coming right to my face? Hope this makes some kind of sense. I look forward to some replies, hopefully.  Thank you.

Hi and welcome
The wiggle of the tail is him 'humping' so you really don't wanna encourage that
You could always put your hand in his path as he goes past your lower arm keeping your arm bent so he can't run up
And please don't touch him below the head as again this is sexual and it often leaves to other problems xx

Thanks for replying. I didnt realise it meant quite that, oops haha. I shall give that a try next time. I have another question which i hope you dont mind me asking, ive got a new carpet and when be goes around the floor he tends to chew at it and sometimes plucks it, i know its a new texture for him but i dont want it ruined but i cant get it to stop, is there anything i can do to make him understand its not acceptable, i try to move him to another area but he just does it again.

All birds like to be up on shoulders, some people dislike it, obviously because the birds can be temperamental and the tamest bird can lash out unexpectedly.

If you are nervous (understandably) just try to put him back to a place next to you, the arm of the chair is always a good spot. Hopefully he'll learn.

As Mandi says don't encourage the mating behaviour, a rule of thumb for most behaviour you want to stop/change is distraction, give him something better to do. :)
