Feathers falling
« on: November 17, 2017, 08:17:44 PM »

Hi all,
I've noticed more feathers falling off of my parrot, can be flight feathers as well as others.
Is this due to winter setting in?
She doesn't pluck them, they just fall out when she flies about.
Could this be due to a bad diet?
We mainly give her cooked meals though we're looking to move her to a complete food.
She doesn't have a Uv light as yet but that's something i'm going to rectify soon.
Thanks for any advice

Cooked meals of what? Can you tell us more about her diet and lifestyle? Also how old is she?

She's 1 1/2 years old. She gets to fly about the house every day and I just finished building an aviary for her yesterday. This morning she had porridge with a bit of water, banana, palm oil spread, tiny bit of honey.
I'll make her a scrambled egg for later on with boiled broccoli.

Itís not really ideal to give her just our food cooked, try & introduce her to pellets, she obviously likes her veg so thatís good. Itís not really known what is their ideal food but a mix of pellets, seeds, fruit & veg should give her all the nutrients she needs. Sheís a lucky girl getting an aviary built too.  :)

Itís a case of finding what they like, iím lucky that mine eats mostly any, zupreem is her favourite but she also likes nutribird. Have a look on Scarletts website, www.scarlettsparrotessentials.co.uk  & have a look around :)
