Hello i wounder if anyone can give a little advise on this:
I have recently purchase a pair of African Grey Parrots with my father in law and we intend to breed them, The seller has said they are a proven pair (taken his word for this)and to what we have seen so far they do get along very well, When we purchased them they lived in what i would call a small cage and never came out of the nest box according to the owner. He also said they where not tame at all and all they do is squak at you as soon as you go near the cage, The bigger darker bird does this the most so on the information we have been given this is the male. we have brought them a much bigger cage and they seem happy with this and over the last few days seem to be more at ease when we approch the cage but still not as approchable as i would like or is this nomal for a breeding pair, We also attached a good size nesting box that they didnt use for the first 4 days and now they come and go as they please but tend to be hidden away inside the nest box more often than not. They are also starting to strip the apple tree branches we have in the cage but there is no sign of them building the nest, so my question is i didnt expect to to settle down and start breeding for at least 3/4 months but could i be wrong and this is what they are doing.? We did a lot of reashearch before we purchase these bird and they are on a very healthy diet including fresh fruit and vegtibles every day. Are there any signs we should be looking out for? any help or advise would be very welcome. thank you
