Help needed
« on: February 27, 2019, 03:28:49 PM »

Hi I need advice please in till a very recently I had a great bond with my african grey MARLEY she would step up take food off me and she was very gentle but now she just wants to bite me very hard at every opportunity. She will also lunge at me if she gets chance. It has got to the point where I can't put her back in her cage when I she comes out. Please I need help she seems to have a lovely bond with my wife now but doesn't seem to want me near her. She did get frightened the other day when I moved something into the living room and she nearly fell off her perch. Please I am at a loss and don't know what to do.

Sorry for the late reply, not many people come to the forum now sadly.

How old is Marley, could it be she's hit hormonal stage? that can make them feisty but I would suspect your wife would also be suffering. How long have you had her? It's very normal for them to be a 'one person' bird but it does seem to be sudden.

Is everything ok with her, she's eating drinking ok and getting enough sleep etc ok?
If you can rule out all that then have you changed something about yourself? can be the smallest thing, item of jewelrry, haircut. colour etc

It could simply be a glitch, don't show her you are scared, try and carry on as normal, if she senses you are nervous of her, she will be nervous herself. Maybe try being the main caregiver for a while to win her back round.

Let us know how you get on and good luck

All Greys have their off days, KIKI comes to both of us at home but sometimes she bites me all the time, then she is back to normal and friendly, don't show that you are afraid as they will pick this up, watch her feathers if they are up,then you know she is in a biting mood
