Geat news that you have him back. But as you said you didnt realise his flight feathers had grown back in. Even if you clip him again, you can end up with the same situation. I haven't the room to build an aviary but with some wire, mesh and ingenuity, I changed a redundant dog crate into a really good travel cage so Casper can go outside safely. Ifonly it would stop raining hehehe. He had a lovely time once he got over the shock of been outside and he came back inside safe and sound

I'm so glad he's back, you're very lucky, but please listen to the excellent advice the others have given so this does not happen again.

Yes, I know how very lucky we are to get him back - thanks guys!
He hasnīt so much as tweeted since he came home though  :cry2:
I made the decision to have him clipped yesterday, I know many of you donīt agree but I just couldnīt keep him locked up in his cage all the time - just doesnīt seem fair!

How cruel clipped again, clipping will not prevent your bird flying off sorry if i sound harsh but in the long run of your birds life you have made it one fat bird due to the lack of excercise and doing what birds do "fly" it only takes a few precautions to make sure our birds are safe doors/windows closed, i have seen clipped birds climbing aviary wires or spending many hours on top of cages bored sick,. a sorry sight in my opinion.

Hate to say it but I think you've missed the entire point of the thread by getting him clipped again. Poor thing.

I don't understand the reasoning here. My birds aren't clipped but that doesn't mean they're locked in their cages all day. They are out of their cages for several hours a day flying around the house or playing in the aviary.

If that's the decision you've made I hope it works out for you.  I don't really understand why he needs to be locked in his cage all day if he isn't clippped. ???  Nico isn't clipped and she's not in her cage all day

If you put Bobby in an Aviary, then he can fly and climb to his hearts content. And still keep his feathers. : )

From Lisa's post I get the impression the deed is already done, not something I agree with but each to their own.

It just doesn't make sense to me, they can fly whether they are clipped or not, to a certain extent, it's still not safe to take them outside without a harness or a cage.  It's up to you of course, but please don't think "It won't happen to me" because it already has once and you may not be so lucky next time.

Oh dear. What a shame you are thinking about wing clipping.

I have only had Bailey for a week, but she absolutely loves coming out. I cant even go near the cage door without her trying to get out.

She doesnt seem all that interested in flying when she's is out, but never the less clipping is not something I would ever consider.

She's out right now and the entire kitchen area is on lock down. Windows, doors shut, blinds down, shades on the velux windows and dogs shut out. She's as free as a bird and thats how it should be for me.

If you havent already done 'the deed' please reconsider and look to see if there are ways to 'lock down' your birds flight/play area.

This site is a mine of information and anyone here will advise you on ways to keep your bird safe.

I wonder if it is because Lisa lives where it's very very hot at all times and it's impossible to have windows and doors closed all the time?

I thought that Irina, although they usually have air conditioning. Surely a couple of hours could have been put aside for Bobby, but if it's done then nothing we can do but wish them good luck

I was pleased more than had I won the Lottery, when Stumpy flew for the first time. Surely an Aviary would tick all the boxes, 1 allergy respose,  2 safe flighted area. 3  a great way too see him in the fresh air.

Without looking it up...... I think the original reason for moving the bird outside was due to her husband's worsening Asthma..... think they were keeping it under a gazebo outdoors?
When she posted up recently about building an aviary she did say that they would put in hatches so it could "come out if it wanted to"... I assumed that she meant come out and free fly
and I did intend to say that it wasn't a great idea but got side tracked.
Pretty sure it's the same person but don't have time to go through all the posts.
